    Trove: Scott's Trion on voxels

Because what EQ:N is attempting is far beyond the complexity of Cubeworld and Trove. I'm pretty sure SOE could shit out a blocky voxel builder, but they're clearly trying to make a current-gen world builder, instead of resorting to what's easy (blocks and pixels). They're in the "world...

    Steam Deals and Digital Sales

I have the same ratio of games-bought-on-Steam to time-spent-playing games.. it's a bad habit. And, with FF7, get ready for 60+ hours of gaming! (10 months)

Dragon Age: Inquisition (Plot Details in Spoilers!)

As someone who actually played through the entirety of DA2, I would say the largest issues I had with it were: 1. Blatant reuse of environment pieces; reuse is a necessity for most games, but game designers usually relight, rearrange props, etc. to change the entire mood of a place. In DA2...

Very informative livestream is up: - 30m of construction shown.. - Two wipes planned. One from alpha to closed beta, and another from closed beta to open beta - First wipe you'll lose your plots, and character progression - Second wipe is "softer" - In both situations, you will keep your...

The bottom line is that they are allowing people to test the game in an alpha state, and provide feedback during this process. I've yet to play an MMO that's done that.. You may see it as a chore to test/feedback, but some people actually WANT to be involved in the process and see how the game...

    EQ Never

This is the dumbest line of reasoning.. how does paying to play a game early vs signing up to be a tester correlate, at all, to someone's desire to test/feedback a game. If anything, the people who are willing to pay money for a testing position are MORE interested in the well-being/development...

Landmark is a giant, player-generated playground. There will be content creation systems in place, but I get the impression that any "Official SOE Designed ContentT" will be reserved for EQNext. So, I feel EQNext is just a solidified, official world that SOE will be investing a lot of time and...

They've shown movement, construction (without the interface), timelapses of building, and finished construction. Combat won't be in at launch.. so.. I think it's pretty easy to predict whether you'll like the type of gaming Landmark offers. It's creative mode Minecraft, in an EverQuest themed...

Alpha + 4 closed beta friend keys sold the Trailblazer pack for me.. I know they haven't shown much, but I'm an ever-optimist, and the EQ IP is the one franchise I let myself be blindly hopeful for. I wouldn't expect many people to pre-purchase, yet, so I'll be sure to report back

    Pan'Theon: Rise' of th'e Fal'Len - #1 Thread in MMO

Here's how it's going to go down: 1. Brad & Smed want EQ3, but since it's a niche game it won't be a blockbuster. Smed wants proof 2. Brad "leaves" SOE to begin prototyping EQ3-like engine 3. Brad's "new company" creates a Kickstarter, proclaiming a return to hardcore MMOs, like original EQ...

    Pan'Theon: Rise' of th'e Fal'Len - #1 Thread in MMO

Vanguard was a massive shitpile for years after release. How are people forgetting this? Whatever Brad makes, if it even sees the light of day, won't be worth playing for years. There's no guarantee SOE will rescue his next failed project, either.

That's my impression, too. Just like the gods, every race will have their strengths and weaknesses, but there will never be a purely "good" or "evil" race. So, instead of having ALL ogres being evil, there might be a faction of them that are militaristic/elitist and bend on world-conquest. But...

I'm not sure if this was mentioned, but I was wondering if maybe the five pieces of gear is just the visual gear. Maybe there will be jewelry / accessory slots that aren't visible on your character. If not now, they could easily add ring, earring, necklace, accessory slots down the road...

I think you may be forgetting what original EverQuest looked like. I think the art direction they chose (with exception to the Kerran), was a good one. If they tried the realistic route, it would looks much less like the original. Check out these comparison shots:

One of the devs mentioned not being able to mine X mineral with Y pick. I imagine that when you hit a new tier, the rock type changes, and you can't continue until you get a stronger pick. Repeat this until you hit "unbreakable", or the bottom of the world (similar to Minecraft?). Just guessing...

This obviously has no bearing on the game whatsoever.. but, I can't get over how derpy FV looks in the new box art. Her eyes aren't pointing in the same direction..

    EQ Never

I don't think anyone is claiming ANYTHING about the gameplay. This discussion is purely about the new art piece they posted for EQNext. You can't deny that the style borrows heavily from WoW's style (especially given that the artist who created the piece has done tons of work for the WoW TCG)...
  31. L

    EQ Never

Well the original art director for EQ1, Rosie Rappaport, is art director for EQNext. Take that for what you will, but if there's any hope of EQNext resembling the original game, it'll be her.. And, interestingly enough, she was not art director for EQ2.

I don't think they've scrapped it recently. Last SOE Live (Fan Faire) they said they had completely thrown out the old model, 6 months prior (or something like that). So the new version should be over 1.5 years in development now.

Shroud Of The Avatar - Shit Went Persistent

This looks.. terrible. I'm okay with simple, stylized graphics but these aren't even styled well. It looks like they are trying to do realistic graphics from 2000. The gameplay looks like MMO combat? It wasn't really clear, but it looks bad all around.

Dragon Age: Inquisition (Plot Details in Spoilers!)

As tempting as the DLC was, I had to vote with my money on that one. I think most people ignored the game altogether after the shitstorm that ensued, and the DLC (no matter how good) got lost in it's wake. Also, that Felicia Day DLC shit was ridiculous and clearly pandering.. that doesn't lend...
