    Renewed/Cancelled Shows

Designated Survivor started off pretty well in the ratings. I watched the first season but gradually lost interest. I think a major problem with these broadcast shows is that there are way too many episodes. Having to create 20+ eps per season makes for a lot of filler shit. It gets old...

They're not cancelling this stuff just to be assholes. The ratings were pretty low.

It got very "timey wimey" which is something I really enjoyed. The upcoming 4th season is final and will complete the series.

You know you're getting old when.....

MY first computer was a Commodore VIC-20 with 3.5k of RAM. My poor parents had to upgrade me nearly every year for Christmas -- went from the VIC-20 to a C64, then C128, then Atari 520ST, then Amiga 500. I think it was '90 or '91 that my dad bought me a Packard Bell 386SX-20. After that I...

    The Last Man on Earth

My theory, which I guess will never be confirmed or denied, is that all of what we've seen is in Tandy's head. The past 4 seasons have been nothing more than him playing pretend with those face-painted soccer balls. He truly is the last man on earth.

    Renewed/Cancelled Shows

NOOOOOOOOOOO! Not Last Man on Earth! TV By the Numbers had it as likely renewal. :( They should at least allow for a finale episode. This sucks.

    Office and gaming chairs

Does anyone have a recommendation for a good office + gaming chair? I've been buying these piece of shit chairs from Sams Club that, while seem great at the store, end up destroying my back. Price-wise I'm looking at around the $500 mark being fine. I've been eyeing the DXRacer chairs, but...

Yeah, another Mint recommendation here. Mint with the MATE is fantastic if you prefer the classic Windows-like desktop.

    The Expanse

Kind of surprised they could catch up to the Nauvoo to turn it around. Since it's a generational starship that thing had to have been booking out of the solar system at a high velocity. I thought it was a poigant moment as they looked around and saw the scenes from Earth murals.

Yeah we're doing exactly that. However, our test team is also writing tests that new up HttpClient to call the endpoints. My argument is that doing this is pointless and proves nothing (other than, yes, IIS is works).

Yeah I'm not suggesting (at all) that unit testing is good enough and not to bother with integration testing. What am I saying is don't waste your time doing loads of integration tests that test components of your system that you did not develop and have no control over. But here is another...

I want to get y'alls opinion on an argument that's raging at work in regards to unit vs integration testing and what's valuable to test and what isn't. I'm not sure I can explain this clearly without going into a lot of detail about how or application is constructed. But suffice to say, what...

I miss Clementine. One thing I found interesting is that a bot being "dead" is mostly a programmed response to being shot, stabbed, etc. The human tech dude quickly revived whats-his-name via the control panel.

    Ash vs Evil Dead

I enjoyed the special effects but overall I was kind of disappointed. Mostly because I wanted some additional time spent with Pablo and Kelly at the end. It kind of felt rushed.

    Westworld

Same here. Also, the characters are becoming unlikable. I have no sympathy for Dolores since she's gone on a murderous rampage. The show as it stands right now has no hero. I have a difficult time maintaining interest when there's no one to root for.

    Lasik Eye Surgery

I was -8.5 in both eyes before I had LASIK done a few years ago. I've suffered from extreme dry eye ever since. I'm literally using artificial tears every 15 to 30 minutes on bad days. However, I just started a new eye drop medication named 'Xidra' which has helped tremendously.

Yeah, we have this problem. Any good coder usually wants to be in development not QA. What we now have are several QA testers who wanted to be a developer but were brought in as QA because their programming skills and knowledge weren't up to snuff. But this has caused the test code to be a...

Reason why I would recommend WebForms instead is that it has a ton of built-in controls (like a data grid). With MVC you'll need to either build your own or find a third-party library. If one is just starting out it'll just add needless complexity.

And you know zero programming languages? What you're describing isn't particularly trivial and the fact you're coming in knowing nothing will make this exponentially more difficult. Given that you're mentioning Microsoft technologies (IIS, SQL Server 2012), I would strongly advise learning...

Imagine you have to update a Person record in the database. But the update being applied is only valid for females. So you need to check the person record in the db to confirm that yes they are female in order for the update to be applied. If not, a validation error is returned. Stuff like...

I suppose it depends on what kind of software you're looking to build, but I have yet to use any real math in my projects. Most everything complicated has been abstracted away into libraries so who cares. For instance, I am not writing on my binary tree sorting algorithm. I often sit on...
