    Everquest AMA with Holly Windstalker

Are EQNext questions kosher for this? If so, there's one I've been curious about ever since the game was canceled. One of the big features that was pitched for EQN was adaptive AI that would react to what was going on in the world around it. While voxels felt like they could be a neat gimmick...

    The Dragon Prince

I had no objections to the queens being lesbians. What did get a "huh?" out of me was the fact that their daughter was a blend of both of their features. Unless there's a whole other angle to what's going on here, only one of them should be her biological parent.

    Outward (PC/Xbox/PS4 Survival RPG Mar-26)

Keeping the house is actually easier than you'd think (I freely admit I spoiled myself on how this is done, but whatever). I got my mana in my last play session, and so far, magic feels very powerful, but it's very much something for emergencies--in the early game, at least. Mana's not a...

    Outward (PC/Xbox/PS4 Survival RPG Mar-26)

I'm early in the game, but I'm enjoying it so far. More than anything, it feels like one of the Gothic games with the Skyrim Frostfall mod built into it, with combat that feels like if the Gothic devs tried to make Dark Souls combat--so eurojank out the ass, but it works well enough. And the...

    What did you just read?

India: A History by John Keay. When it comes to history, I do a lot of medieval Europe, but I do try to branch out every now and then, and India was one of the larger gaps in my knowledge. On the whole, this was a pretty good introduction to the subject; it can be a bit too easy to get lost in...

Vampire the Masquerade - Bloodlines sequel? Remake?

An actual sequel; nice. Looking forward to seeing gameplay. That said, never heard of this dev team; any reason to be particularly optimistic or pessimistic about them?

Game Streaming Services - Stadia, Geforce Now, xCloud, PS Now

Neat, I guess. But I'm honestly curious, what percentage of the population is even going to have the internet speeds needed to stream a modern AAA game? Hell, outside of major cities, what percentage will even have access to an ISP that provides those speeds as an option? Seems like the sort of...

Vampire the Masquerade - Bloodlines sequel? Remake?

Has the look of a remake to me. If they're going that route, hopefully they'll make the extra effort to revamp the last act of the game, where the budget was clearly starting to give out.

    Marvel Universe stuff

GotG3: Rocket Dicks About the Galaxy Stealing Prosthetics I'd watch that. Seriously though, Gunn said some stupid fucking shit in those tweets, but I'm glad he's back. And let this whole episode be a lesson for us all: If you publicly post pedophilia jokes on the internet, employers and...

    Total War: Warhammer

One thing worth knowing on the whole 'playing WH1 races in the WH2 combined campaign' thing--you need to own WH1 to use those races, you don't need to install WH1. As long as it shows up in your Steam library, you're good to go. Just to save you some hard drive space.

I find myself honestly enjoying the angle they went with.

    Captain Marvel (2019)

Okay, so having seen it, Larson does a serviceable job as Captain Marvel, but is a fair way off of being one of those "Oh my God, fucking nailed it" casting choices. The high points of the movie were Fury (and speaking of him, they're getting quite good at that de-aging tech), Skrullboss, and...

    Assassin's Creed Odyssey (Greece)

I get what he means, I think. For a series about assassins, AC1 was really the only one that had that feeling of: you have a target > gather intel on them > plan your approach > make your attack. It could've been developed a bit more, but the series kinda jettisoned that whole aspect after the...

    Kingdom Come: Deliverance

They're really pushing to become the European EA, aren't they? (In size and scope; hopefully not in driving their subordinate dev teams into the ground.)

2019 NFL Post Season Thread - Rams vs. Patriots for SuperBowl

You know, I didn't know if I could ever see a more pathetic performance in a Super Bowl than the Broncos against the Seahawks in 2014, but I'll be damned, not one, but two more pathetic performances in one game..

    Red Dead Redemption 2

I seriously want to see more historical games made with this game's general design philosophy--almost any setting, really. Between GTA and RDR (and hell, let's toss LA Noir into the mix), it seems like Rockstar has a thing for...let's call it 'Americana', I guess. Based on that, I find myself...

    What did you just read?

My latest batch of books: The Viking World by James Graham-Campbell. This history book doesn't really cover the Viking raids, but rather is more about Viking-era Scandinavian culture. It's not a large book, and thus not much of a deep-dive into the subject, but it has a ton of high-quality...

    Black Panther (2018)

Agreed with the general sentiment so far. It was an entertaining-enough movie, and its other nominations for sound and costuming and the like are reasonable, but best picture? Not remotely. It was a solid B-tier Marvel movie, that's it.

    Captain Marvel (2019)

Eh, at this point, Marvel's earned themselves a pretty hefty benefit of the doubt. They'd need to strike out with multiple "diversity" movies for me to actually get worried. On that note, the latest Captain Marvel trailer is looking a lot better than the previous ones. It's actually got the...

    What did you just read?

The New Knighthood: A History of the Order of the Temple by Malcolm Barber. Yeah, I like history. I picked this one up after seeing it described as essentially being the gold standard of history books on the Templars, and after reading it, I'd say it probably deserves that reputation. It's...

    Aquaman (2018)

This is truly the Big Dumb Comic Book Movie to end Big Dumb Comic Book Movies, but that's kinda what it needed to be. Lots of big over-the-top spectacle, and some corny dialogue, but it was fun. And really, this is one of the very few ways that that you're going to be able to get audiences on...

    Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018)

This is part of Miles' established comic backstory, so I don't consider it too spoilery, but I'll tag it just in case. Aside from that, you should be good.

    Aquaman (2018)

Most of the reviews I've seen floating around the internet have been some variation of "it's a big dumb over-the-top spectacle, but it's a fun one." That's something I can work with.

    Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018)

Damn good movie--good story, good animation style, pretty much good everything. And for those asking, no, there's not really anything that I'd label "SJW," or anything like that. Might also be one of my favorite post-credit scenes.

Planetside Arena - New BR, 1-29-2019

Striking while the iron is frigid. You'd think that, after the great WoW-Clone Rush that functionally crashed the MMO market, that developers (especially MMO developers) would stop trying to me-too after these giant market-dominating games that are too well established to ever supplant.

    Atlas

Based on what's popped up online, it sounds like it's going to be buy-to-play with a cosmetics cash shop. I believe they're also said that DLC- or expansion-style content will be free, to not fragment the playerbase.

I want to see something more substantial before passing judgement, but I'm definitely intrigued. A fantasy-style EVE whose moment-to-moment gameplay isn't that of a Massively Multiplayer Spreadsheet Simulator certainly sounds awesome.
