    Red Dead Redemption 2

If you haven't done it yet, completing the first mission for Straus in Chapter 2 opens up the ledger, which you can use to upgrade the camp. You use those upgrades to improve those 'camp stats'.

Diablo 3 - Reaper of Souls

Nice to see that Blizzard has a firm grasp on the concept of 'damage control'.

    All things Brandon Sanderson

Oathbringer's also out in paperback now, for anyone like me who buys books in paperback (naturally, it seems to only be the trade paperback that's slightly larger than the last phonebook that was left on my doorstep, but what are you going to do).

    Red Dead Redemption 2

Huh. I had been wondering where they were; I figured they were just out dicking about in the world. Well, I'm going to be going out of town for a week and a half tomorrow; sucks to be missing out on RDR2 time, but hopefully they'll have this patched by the time I get back.

    Red Dead Redemption 2

Remember, Rockstar controls, so you have to mash the run button to sprint. You need that when you're trying to chase down a runner.

    Red Dead Redemption 2

A ways back, I posted on the AC Odyssey thread that I'm at the point where I wish that Ubisoft would put the AC series to bed, and just make unrelated historical titles where you play as an iconic archetype for the time period. This game is just about the epitome of what I was talking about...

Diablo 3 - Reaper of Souls

That pretty much nails it. I don't begrudge companies making mobile games; they make good money for minimal investment, and hit a market they wouldn't otherwise hit. So sure, fuck it, make the occasional mobile game. But they keep devoting major time to these games at these sorts of events...

    Smash Bros Ultimate

For something verging on a joke character, Piranha Plant actually looks fun to play.

    Red Dead Redemption 2

Finally picked up the game today. So far, I've only done the tutorial section in the Grizzlies and got down to the first proper camp, so I haven't seen the true meat of the game, but so far it's great. Even with a bog-standard PS4, the game looks amazing. For anyone not liking the controls, or...

    Ashes of Creation

No. They apparently just slapped a BR mode together to use for some combat testing.

    Marvel's Luke Cage

I'd be down for it. The Iron Fist guest appearance in LC season 2 was one of the better episodes.

    Spider-Man

You know, outside of the obvious ones, like the Avengers, Dr. Strange would actually be towards the top of my list for games. A character having a superpower as broad as "magic" opens up a lot of possibilities for creating a unique moveset. And him having planar travel as an option could result...

    Spider-Man

These days, wide appeal is easy. The last time we were getting decent Marvel games was back when, if you didn't read comics, Spider-Man and the X Men were basically the only Marvel characters you knew about (I still remember playing one of the X Men Legends games back in the day, and unlocking...

    What are you playing?

Over the last couple years, I’ve settled into a pattern of alternating between playing a new game, and then revisiting an old one—to do a second play through, or to check out DLC that’s since been released. After beating Spider-Man PS4, I went back to finally do a second play through of Tyranny...

    Total War: Warhammer

I think they talked about the only patching alongside updates thing in a Q&A a while ago, and said they do it to provide a more stable platform for development; essentially trying to avoid what happened when they were adding Norsca to TWW2, so I wouldn't expect that to change. But yeah, they...

Wasn't looking forward to having yet more vampires, but I have to admit, that looked good.

    Unannounced Harry Potter RPG

I don't have a major affinity for Harry Potter (it's fine, but I was just never all-aboard the Harry Potter train), but I won't say no to a mage-centric open-world game. And the footage looked promising.

    RIP Telltale Games

Info's floating around that the people who got axed aren't getting severance. Based on that, I'm assuming that Telltale's not going to be letting go of any money they've currently got their hands on without a fight.

    RIP Telltale Games

Seems as good a time as any to start eulogizing Telltale, so in that vein, here's a weird fucking bit of Telltale trivia I've got for you guys, that I think at least a few of you may appreciate. Some of you may recall that--in defiance of any common sense--Telltale made a narrative-driven game...

    RIP Telltale Games

Not terribly surprising that they bit the big one, they were putting out more and more games that people were caring less and less about, with the increasingly dated engine and narrative formula that was becoming increasingly obvious. That being said, wow, they went from 60 to 0 in record time...

    Spider-Man

Finished the game up last night, and God this is a good game. Nailed the gameplay; nailed the aesthetics; nailed the story. Lord knows, nobody's ever accused me of being an emotional person, but some of the stuff at the end there was hitting me right in the feels. And great work at foreshadowing...

    Captain Marvel (2019)

What they showed looked fine, for what it was; the trailer just lacked oomph (aside from Granny getting decked, I suppose). Need to show a little action next time.

    Nintendo Switch (previously NX)

Well, they managed to find a character to add to Smash that literally no one on the planet would predict, so, well done on that, I guess.

    Spider-Man

Based on what I've played so far, if you'd let your kid watch the MCU movies, then you can let them play the game. It's tonally not too far off.

    Spider-Man

It may be 30fps, but it seems to be a pretty solid one. I haven't noticed any fps dips in my time playing, regardless of what's going on. Hasn't caused any issues while webslinging.

    Spider-Man

I've said before that I don't like open world games over-relying on collectables to pad things out, but I will say that if you are going to do collectables, the backpacks are the way to do it. The fact that each one has its own little snippet of story makes me actually enjoy finding a new one...

    Spider-Man

Was out of town yesterday, so bought it today, and just finished my first play session. Fuck this is good. The mix of swinging, zipping, and perching makes for amazing traversal--I'd even go so far as to say it comes together to finally beat Spider-Man 2. Combat took me a little longer to fully...

One of the main story quests takes you right next to the entrance to the DLC area; good enough time to start it as any.

    Assassin's Creed Odyssey (Greece)

Finally got around to playing Origins, and finished it this last weekend. I still feel like it's time to put AC out to pasture, but credit where credit is due, aside from one or two stumbles (boy, whoever was the lead on quest design really liked the pick-up-and-carry-things mechanic), it was a...

    Wheel of Time series

That said, the political stuff does make Sword of Truth a fascinating sort of trainwreck. Especially since it wasn't until the halfway point of the series that he really committed to using the books to proselytize for sucking Ayn Rand's metaphorical dick, and he had already established things in...

Bethesda threatens lawsuit over sale of secondhand games

From other articles, it sounds like Bethesda’s entire complaint was that the guy reselling the game marked it as ‘new,’ which implies that the game is still under warranty. Seems a bit nitpicky, but I guess I see their point. If you want to resell a game, just list it as ‘like new;’ problem solved.

Also, over 100 stages and 900 songs, the ability to turn off stage hazards (in addition to the ability to change all stages into Battlefield and Final Destination forms), and new optional mechanics like the ability to build up a power bar rather than hitting a Smash Ball to perform a Final...

    Batman: Arkham Knight

Knight has the best gameplay and level design, and I'd probably give it best general aesthetics as well, but it overused the Batmobile, had a lack of good boss fights, and had some story issues (it would've hung together a lot better is Jason Todd had been mentioned in any game prior to this...

    Batman: Arkham Knight

Eh, while Knight is my favorite of the bunch with regards to gameplay and world design (even with them overdoing it with the Batmobile), Origins does get the tip of the hat from me for the story and the boss battles. Now if they had just patched that fucking interrogation bug...

Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019)

Christ, if they have him do the Dance of Victory, I will stand and applaud in the theater. Only thing better would be if they somehow managed to work Jet Jaguar's theme song into the film.

    What did you just read?

Just finished The Time Traveler's Guide to Medieval England by Ian Mortimer. I'd passed over this one a few times in the bookstore because, based on the name, I was expecting something with a stupid gimmick; but after seeing it recommended on some history forums, I decided to give it a shot. I'm...
