Poll First Retro Game of the Month

So we're going to try doing a Retro Game of the Month Club, where we select one retro game each month (most likely NES, SNES, or Genesis), play it, and discuss it. Because I got more suggestions than I was expecting, we've got a big list this month to choose from. Next time we'll get 1...

I actually own the SFC Seiken Densetsu 3 cart, but it's too text-heavy and kanji-reliant for me to figure out what to do. I haven't tried the fan translation yet.

OK, how about this: @a_skeleton_00 @Vaultek @McCheese @yimmien @pharmakos @Therage @OU Ariakas @Noodleface Everybody pick 2 SNES games you'd like to play. For the sake of simplicity, we need not concern ourselves with whether or not we own the game in some format or another (I don't own 7th...

OK, so the NeoGaf shenanigans reminded me of one of the things I really liked about the forum (before I was banned) and I thought I would see if we could pull off something similar here. The idea is to have an "NES Game of the Month" thread, where interested parties could decide on one specific...

    Spelunky 2

There are still a bunch of secrets and stuff I haven't done in Spelunky, but damned if I didn't love the crap out of that game. I'm happy to see it's getting a sequel. Hope it lives up to the first. I also hope they can tune the algorithms so I don't start a cave with a shopkeeper getting killed...

    SNES Classic - 9/29 - $80

I started it over a couple of times since beating it on SNES ages ago, but like most classic RPGs I love, I couldn't get very far before my attention was drawn elsewhere. It really is a great game, though. I can't believe more RPGs didn't incorporate the "automatic win" mechanic when you vastly...

    SNES Classic - 9/29 - $80

Well, the NES and SNES Classics have a WAY broader audience than the Switch. There are a lot of people who have no intention of ever buying a Switch (who don't even know about it, even) but have some nostalgia for old NES and SNES games and would be happy to pick up a gadget that lets them play...

    Paper Clip game

I enjoyed it for a while, although I was glad when it ended. Its mechanics are not particularly transparent (especially when it comes to quantum calculations), but I suppose part of the fun is figuring it out.

Damn. I knew he retired for health reasons but I had no idea he was so close to the end. He was a great musician and a poet. He will be missed.

Not sure what journalists you follow, all the reviews I've read have been overwhelmingly positive and listed the difficulty as a good thing! Its Metacritic scores are 87 for XBox and 89 for PC. Not too shabby!

Once in a rare while there will be a Playstation or Nintendo bundle, but the grand majority of Humble Bundles include Steam keys. You can see the Steam logo in the corner of each individual game listed.

I like it, but that's probably because it reminds me of the Clockwork Knight soundtrack, which I have fond nostalgic memories of.

I REALLY wanted to like Secret of Evermore, but the combination of the pace-killing "sniff everywhere to find resources" mechanic and the "re-collect all those resources if you die at a boss" mechanic made it hard to get into. I actually kind of liked the setting, although the made-up movie...

We've got access to all the FF games now, including multiple versions of the ones we didn't originally get in the SNES/NES days. Referring to them by their Japanese numbers is simply the most straightforward way to do it. Saying "FF3" makes more sense if you're referring to the third game in the...

Don't. Kotaku reviews are fine and contain useful information about the games whether you agree with the reviewer's opinions or not. And that footage wasn't from a review, it was from a game "journalist" who clearly lacks a fundamental understanding of how video games work. Haven't played...

    SNES Classic - 9/29 - $80

I've got SNES, Genesis, NES and GameBoy libraries emulated on my tablet, which I play with a BlueTooth SNES controller (8BitDo). It's a portable retro paradise that's far more comprehensive and versatile than the SNES Classic, but I would STILL happily pay full price for one. Hopefully Nintendo...

I spent a good 9 hours with the game so far, beat it once with Sonic & Tails and am in the middle of playing a more thorough run with Knuckles.
