Holy shit that is awkward.

People don't like QTEs in their action games where they interrupt the flow of the game and remove control from the player, but in a story-based decision-making game they add a bit of engagement and keep you on your toes.

I hear ya. Here's my suggestion: Continue nominating/voting for games a usual, BUT focus on platformers or other reasonably short games for January so we can keep discussing PSIV while offering a couple of hours and some lighthearted discussion about Earthworm Jim or Dino City or something...

I never got the chance to play Quackshot growing up but I always wanted to. Looked like a pretty good game! Never played Maui Mallard, either, which also looked decent.

As much as I've loved a lot of great RPGs, I have to admit I've usually avoided using magic in battle to the greatest extent possible, mostly because I just felt like I was consuming a precious resource (MP). I usually spam attacks and reserve magic for curing allies and fighting bosses, and so...

Also worth playing: Super Mario Bros. DX, for GameBoy color, which adds new modes and challenges for a somewhat fresh take on a classic, although the limited resolution of the GBC forces a "zoomed in" view. Bonus: You can unlock and print out some nifty stickers if you've got a GameBoy printer...

A lot of 8 bit and 16 bit RPGs have iffy translation, so I was actually quite impressed with how natural a lot of the dialogue in PSIV sounded. Still, it's understandable that a few lines don't carry the same meaning as they did in the original Japanese. Localisation is a very tricky beast, so...
