    Bitcoins/Litecoins/Virtual Currencies

You have a public/private key pair with X bitcoins. When you transfer ownership to me, you need my public key. To transfer ownership, you'll publish a transaction to the network saying ("Move coin in this public/private key pair to that public/private key pair"). The network checks to make...

    Bitcoins/Litecoins/Virtual Currencies

Mining requires a trivial amount of computational power. Mining is the creation of a block. A block is a group of transactions. All the blocks from the genesis block (block 1) onward are referred to as the blockchain. The short version is; at any point in time, all the miners are running...

    Engagement rings

Women being the gate keepers of sex? What the fuck -- is this friendzone logic? The only men I know who say this shit are guys in bad shape with bad grooming habits who think they're way more attractive than they actually are and are perplexed that women don't agree so its somehow their fault.

    Engagement rings

This was my thought process when I reasoned out how much to spend on my wife's ring. It makes me shake my head a little when I see a guy buy a $500 ring when his gaming equipment is 2x (or more) expensive. What message does this send? I realize other relationships have far more depth than...

    Path of Exile

My interest in checking out the D3 patch is minimal because I know I'll jump ship to this on March 5th. Rabble rabble, why couldn't it have been Friday. On a side note, if anyone here is playing Standard, I can log on a character and give you all my shit. A substantial portion was donated...

I agree regarding the regulation -- I highly doubt the know your customer laws will change anytime soon. Quick google check shows Paypal at 4% + "a fixed fee" for international transactions. I'm assuming they do the currency exchange themselves at unfavorable rates. Ouch.

    Bitcoins/Litecoins/Virtual Currencies

No no, I get that point (well, by get I mean, I'll take other peoples' word for it). What I meant is, the deflationary nature of BTC makes people that treat it as a commodity inclined to hold it. There will be many people for whom BTC isn't a commodity they care or choose to hold -- the value...

    Bitcoins/Litecoins/Virtual Currencies

What would be the problem with some people holding it as an investment vehicle akin to gold or any other commodity and some people buying it in batches whenever they need to transact in it. People who use W.U don't usually keep a balance with them, they buy/send what they need when they need to.

    Bitcoins/Litecoins/Virtual Currencies

People who are smarter about this than me have convinced me how deflation is bad... that being said, holy shit that was a terrible way to try to communicate that. I can't believe none of the proofreaders didn't write a (?) next to that phrase.

    Bitcoins/Litecoins/Virtual Currencies

I have a few questions for the people skeptical of cryptocurrencies (CC). Full disclosure, I hold some CC but they're a minute part of my portfolio and its classified as 'irrational speculation' in my head. A) I see a lot of talk about how regulation is mandatory, then people cite sources...

    Bitcoins/Litecoins/Virtual Currencies

If I send you my wallet, then you and I both can transact with any of the btc within. If I send you bitcoin, it will attached to a private key with which only you can transact. In the scenario you quoted, MtGox has EXCLUSIVE access to the private keys, as opposed to sharing access (which is...

    Bitcoins/Litecoins/Virtual Currencies

This isn't accurate -- MTGOX users didn't give their wallet (a collection of public/private key pairs) to Gox. They gave their BITCOINS to Gox. They were utilizing Gox as a bank/wallet out of convenience. Compare to the thousands of people who have used Gox but didn't get burnt by this; these...

    Bitcoins/Litecoins/Virtual Currencies

Everything else you said was great, but this is a misleading statement. The difficulty is high right now because the high rate of BTC minting (25 per block) combined with its value in USD makes it profitable for this extreme electrical burn. Block rewards will diminish, hardware will become...

Diablo 3 - Reaper of Souls

    Bitcoins/Litecoins/Virtual Currencies

My limited following of this is that the people running Gox designed their own back-end for handling transactions without really understanding what they were doing. This lead to them bleeding out BTC to people who caught on and exploited it. Then they ran some smokeshow bullshit about how its...

    Strife - 2nd gen MOBA

I think it'd be fine for a MOBA to launch with substantially less heroes than LOL/DOTA... makes the learning curve much more forgiving. 1. False -- how can you say BTC have no value if someone else will give me things I want for them? This is nearly the same degree of utility as USD (except I can't pay my taxes or settle debts with BTC). 2. Bittertroll? Explain this more thoroughly if you're willing; I"m genuinely interested...

    Bitcoins/Litecoins/Virtual Currencies

True -- and unless a store passes on their savings to you (3 percent cash back, for example) then they definitely aren't competitive with a credit card. But this is a scenario where you typically do not need digital cash. You just need digital wealth.

    Bitcoins/Litecoins/Virtual Currencies

That isn't how it works -- the exchange can keep a backup copy of the public/private key that were HOLDING your bitcoin. Once the transaction moves that BTC to a different public/private key pair, only the person(s) with the private key can use that coin.

    Bitcoins/Litecoins/Virtual Currencies

Two major contributors to volatility: 1) Bitcoin is SMALL. The BTC market cap is nothing compared to what you typically think of as a commodity. 2) Primarily held by speculators and traders who want to be on the favorable end of market velocity. Any hint of price fluctuation and more...

Eh, I see both sides of this argument. Desync is real but there are many ways to mitigate it so much that its a non-issue for most people. I do hope they eventually unfuck their netcode because it's bullshit when you compare it to D3. That being said, PoE has held my attention 100x longer...

My R9 280x and 7950 make about .02 BTC a day. It was definitely faster when I started back in April, about .07 a day as I recall. However, that was back when they were $100 a piece instead of $700. I suspect mining profit will continue to decrease as more rigs come online and people stop...

Yea I'm pretty pleased with the ASUS R9 280X -- runs cool and quiet. I could push this thing to 800KH/s if I wanted to, but I'm running both cards inside a closed conventional case so the heat dissipation just isn't going to happen. Inside the closed case, they're running at 73c and 75c which...

Yea, I rolled Midgard on DAOC release but no one really new how imba anything was. Healers are one of the most powerful classes I've ever seen in a pvp game. Massive CC, heals, run speed, clarity, buffs? You can build a group so easily with a good healer.

This sounds fucking retarded -- why would a dev team pick this patch to release on? Also, another sign of massive Midgard pop imbalance is how many more bug reports Midgard's forum has on their site.
