This isn't true -- I've noticed a tapering off of retard aggression in myself and others. I'd call myself a decent Silver player at this point and definitely notice my Bronze or Unranked friends chase to their death 5x more than other friends of mine that are what I'd consider peers.

Also curious where the server is located. This forum and the official forums indicate a HEAVY bias towards Midgarde.

Depends on what you mean by hassle. Setting up a decent scrypt miner could be difficult depending on your level of computer expertise. If you mean exchanging it for USD, then you'd need a coinbase account or friends willing to do the exchange to USD for you.

I'm undecided on the long-term value of BTC or LTC; I think that cryptocurrency is here to stay but I find it highly plausible that the public utility and public interest (and thus, price) changes as more iterations come out. For example, the myspace ---> facebook --> ? iterations we've seen...

There is a charge for a vendor to use Bitpay, but it looks like they're very competitive compared to Visa. I'm not sure what small business owners have to pay Visa for CC transactions but I though it was 2-3 percent. BitPay The 1 percent transaction fee is probably the best route for most...

Yes -- I forget which exchange bitpay uses... but at the time of the transaction, the merchant will print out or display the public key, the customer sends the bitcoins, and Bitpay deposits USD in the vendor account daily. I don't know how bitpay protects themselves from volatility but the...

I absolutely cannot understand this Dogecoin thing. For the last few weeks, a multicoin pool with 8000MH/s (SCRYPT!!!) has been mining Dogecoin because its the most profitable coin to mine. 8000MH/s = 12,307 Radeon 7950s. Its a lot of hash power. The pool has paid out 100+ BTC daily. By...

I have sold multiple coins easily for relatively close to mt.gox price at the time. You can mine scrypt-based coins. (1) 7950 = $3.50 a day at this exchange rate.

I think people use fiat as just a placeholder for whatever local currency the person desires. Its not like anything would be lost in translation if you replace fiat with USD; people would know what I mean... but given the international characteristic of a cryptocurrency, it just makes sense to...

I struggle with the "coins have no value" argument. I would argue that the network and its algorithms absolutely have an intrinsic value. You are correct in stating that 1 bitcoin in a vacumn is useless to anyone, but so is an infinite pile of gold. Perhaps I don't understand this intrinsic...

I would try localbitcoins.com -- it gets a lot of positive reviews. Essentially, meet some dood with bitcoins at a bank and do your thing with smartphones. If you don't feel saavy or safe enough, then your next best solution is coinbase.com -- I've done a handful of BTC <--> USD swaps with...

Look at Amazon's stock price from 1998 to 2001. By no means am I saying Bitcoin is a sure thing, but I think a lot of people blow everything out of proportion when things get super volatile. Its STILL double what it was a month ago. I'm not surprised a lot of people left the market in a...

A lot of people did that (myself included) when they were worth sub $4 and were dropping lower. Difficulty was 500ish and rising every recompute and people were grumpy that their 2-3 7950s were only making 4 LTC a day. Obviously, had they stayed in to sell at this new price point those would...

I can give you a hand once you get the open-air setup and solve the heat issue. Scrypt tweaking can be a huge pain in the ass and its absolutely not worth the time until we can be sure that they won't just shut down in a mini-inferno due to heat.

Eeew... it makes me sad to see such nice cards being abused so heavily. Hashing at sub 50 percent maximum while running super hot. I feel like I'm witnessing a dog owner kick the shit out of his dog. Here is my ghetto example of how I added my temporary 3rd GPU. These are all 7950s.

Don't buy bitcoin mining hardware. If you really want to pick up mining as a hobby, then buy scrypt-mining hardware. This stuff can actually play games (hint, its just a computer with GPUs). You have a reasonable shot at recouping your initial investment even if the alt-coins never gain in...

I don't think you need powered risers for what you're doing, which looked liked 3x cards to a mobo all on the 16x slots? Its the guys trying to squeeze in a 4th GPU on the 1x slot that usually fry their board. THat being said, they are probably(?) safer overall and you need risers anyway.
  35. Eidal

First time hearing that. My understanding is you only need powered riser cables if you're trying to use the 1x slot on your mobo.

This makes sense -- I think your best bet is going to be an open-air rig. Find a milk crate, put a pillow in the bottom. Sit the mobo on the pillow and suspend the cards above it using a wood ruler or something to hang them on. You'll need PCI-E riser cables which can be a hassle to find...

My only experience is with heavily overclocked 7950s. With two in a case with door off, one still pushes 75 degrees. I capped the fan speed at 75 percent so maybe thats it. When I ran the rig with 3 GPUs I had one card sitting outside the case with a riser cable... absolutely no way would...

tldr; strong hashing power is essential to the security of the coin. A low hash rate coin is doomed to be the target of 51 percent attacks if it ever became profitable enough to justify it. False. A low hash rate is dangerous due to how much hashing power total exists. A coin with a low...
