    Investing General Discussion

REITs always looked like really bad ideas for investment to me. Investing in real estate you can't see and care for yourself just feels like setting yourself up to get scammed. I agree tech is bloated and there's gonna be some companies that implode in the next 10 years, but I also just don't...

Retirement... (i.e. what are you going to be after you've grown up)

Roth IRA has no tax on withdrawal if you follow the rules. It's a very powerful tool for regular investors and the super wealthy. Shocked you don't know about it if you are into wealth management. Peter thiel in particular made a comical exploit of the rules to evade around a billion in taxes.

Retirement... (i.e. what are you going to be after you've grown up)

Roth IRAs have no RMD if you are the original owner and are alive. For your TSP, if you are worried about RMDs or want some money early, I'd consider SEPPing it. That lets you start taking money at any age, and you wont have RMDs. You can't change it until 60 though, so best be sure you are...

Retirement... (i.e. what are you going to be after you've grown up)

I've got so much in my 401k I'd probably eat all the way up to 12% bracket +standard for a couple years. I'd have to sit and do the math on various scenarios before committing. Sure I'd pay 5000$ in taxes, but long term the benefits are worth it IMO. Rolling over the standard is a no brainer...

You can roll 401k into a roth IRA. When I retire early, my plan is to live off my normal investments, and roll about 40k a year from my 401k->roth IRA. It's a tax mitigation strategy that is very worthwhile if you have years where you are making very little on paper. Roth IRA is 10000% worth...

    What vehicle do you drive?

I've done plenty of stupid stuff, but generally my car has held me back from being tooo stupid. I had to make a blind swerve when I was a lot younger and racing someone like 120 down the highway in heavy traffic. It would have been rip bozo if my spidey sense that I was good was wrong. I've...

324.38%... S&P500 was 1469.25 to start 2000, so 90s would be 408.15% growth. AI loves to just make shit up when it comes to numbers. I never trust its numbers. 408% growth is ~15% a year averaged out over 10 years. It appears that We're on track for getting a high 300% growth this decade if...

If you're making positive progress you're doing better than most. Something like 50% of people your age have no retirement. If you have around 80k between the both of you, you probably make it to the top 25% in preparing for retirement. If you're enjoying your life, nothing wrong with being a...

I started EQ in high school, got kicked out at 18 and went to playing EQ on a potato in a 400$ apartment in the ghetto. I figured if I was gonna be playing eq so much, I might as well make money doing it, so I sold a lot of plat. I made almost as much money from that as my 7$ an hour job.

I’d say step 3 and 6 are skipped if you act optimally and 4 should be higher in some circumstances, especially if you want to retire early or comfortably. Lastly, step 2 shouldn’t apply to any “good debt”, which id say is probably house, car with value, and low percent student loans. Before I...

I dunno what his advice is. Is it something like 20% to 401k, invest in S&P500? That's what I recommend to financially illiterate relatives. It's simple and always works (so far). A lot of people think they can do better than that...most of those people are ultimately wrong.

Depends on where I am. At home I drink mostly water. At work I use crystal light packets frequently because the water just don't taste as good.
