it's not just fortnite, same people make the unreal engine and I believe I saw somewhere if you distribute via epic they'll wave the license fee for the engine. Which between that and the % they're asking for being less than 1/2 steam should get their attention.

you don't have to have an active subscription to use a gaming service if you were paying a monthly fee for a library of games to play then yes it would. if they split up exclusives between multiple pay walls then piracy would be the logical easiest path.

If someone invented some kind of simple program that let you browse every game library system at once this would be more tolerable. Discord kinda does that but only for launching games. a hub that would plug into steam, origin, gog and epic and browse buying games all at once would be kinda...
