There's some appeal to playing unintended mechanics since they are usually time-limited. For example, this is a good way to test the feel of a crossbow without the reload mechanic. Lich might be tankier.

I use rotating dump tabs in PoE1 in part to catch items that are worth more than they currently priced. I was anticipating continuing to do that but instead, just pulling the item out of regular tabs and pricing it properly in an async tab. It seems almost no one uses the regular trading...
