Wildstar Launch Thread - Server: Stormtalon | Faction: Dominion

Probably because currently to get an MMO greenlit you pretty much sell it with features that would be a shame for B5. Just imagine this project using the franchise, it would disgrace the show more then the shitty crusade spinoff did.

    Is the MMO Market imploding?

Played two classes into the teens... it just didnt grab me. The quest model is WoW-like and I dont really enjoy that anymore I guess. I went in expecting to get a month out of it and didnt log back in after the weekend. Edit: for the F2P games just download and get your own impression, there...

It feels like a pretty huge step backwards from how GW2 handles these things. It also sounds like names can be re-used on different servers? I always hated getting X'd once the inevitable merges happen, and getting stuck with the server name is equally stupid (WoW BGs etc). Just allow longer...

Nearly nothing should be account-wide, if anything is that make it opt-in. Definitely not faction or class unlocks.

Hex: Shards of Fate TCG - Set 7: Frostheart 6/29/17

This is a TCG, it's gonna cost money to compete. People buying into the kickstarter for full sets or a weekly draft are just paying those cards now (granted, possibly at a very good rate) instead of later. The whole core of a TCG model might put off computer gamers that compare it to other video...

    Is the MMO Market imploding?

Well if you only played to 15 (which amounts to an hour or two) I guess that's your opinion, man. To each their own. I find GW2 alot less spammy then EQ2/WoW/TOR. Love that they stepped away from having dozens of hotkeys for example. With 10 abilities max and most of them on cooldowns, it...

    Is the MMO Market imploding?

Tol your experience seems tainted by the rush to cap alongside hundreds of other players (as expected in MMOs). You only get that experience in a few select parts of the world now (wherever a new patch adds some stuff, or for specific meta events). Someone buying the game now would have a very...

I dont think the majority of players (note I dont say players, not gamers) are actually looking for a virtual world. And I think that additions that are perceived as negative to players of current-gen MMOs are very difficult to sell. A tiny fragment of them will embrace the challenge and become...

    Is the MMO Market imploding?

Since TOR only the Final Fantasy re-release and Guild Wars 2 come to mind. Havent tried FF, but GW2 is worth the box price for sure and something to nicely pick back up now and then (no progression or raid content to speak of). It's the perfect in-between or "waiting for X" game. For those same...

The problem is that it's kinda like asking little kids about their favorite foods. What you think you want might not actually be that good in the long run.

Nah they dont, but that much has been clear since SOE live, nothing new really. Why they make those videos is anyone's guess, my take is they have a budget they need to get rid off.

Wildstar Launch Thread - Server: Stormtalon | Faction: Dominion

It could be fun, sure. Hard-coded factions are very high on my most-hated modern MMO features by now, so I am clearly in favor of a soft lock based on factions. That way you can even have faction-specific races that take some work to switch. Players that want to stand out will do it. But...

    Is the MMO Market imploding?

"The cooperation required" angle is kinda like Die Tonight, which was a pretty fun game as far as browser games go. I would soften it with an npc city to start out from for inevitable lone wolves that want to live off the scraps and for players from failed attempts to make their own towns...

I only got around to watching this now, and what little info it held is in line with what I'd like to see. Less instancing and actual public dungeons. Now, the second half was worthless and they might come out with an innovative feature to replace instancing that is just as lame (dynamic phasing...

    Pan'Theon: Rise' of th'e Fal'Len - #1 Thread in MMO

I'm like the third post on this but to how do you get from trinity to GW2 without any steps in between? Anyway, trinity means different things to different people at this point, too. To clarify we are talking about Tank/Heal/CC right? because for the WoW generation it's more like Tank/Heal/DPS.

New dungeon path is fun, if a bit long for a linear instance. Bummer that they decided to delete one of the old ones. Someone tell Anet that content doesnt have to follow a zero sum equation.

The key feature of landmark wasnt part of the previous incarnations of the game, and the idea of Landmark itself only came to them less then a year ago - I'm sticking with 'winter' which means Feb-Apr for beta ... maybe invites go out in 2013 so they can claim that they met their early claims...

    Pan'Theon: Rise' of th'e Fal'Len - #1 Thread in MMO

Some version of this is exactly what I think is needed. Imo removing roles entirely was a mistake in GW2, with hindsight. It turned everyone into "just" dps, and with their not-so-great buff system even support is best dps. Instead, I would cut dps as a role and allow all classes to do that...

    Pan'Theon: Rise' of th'e Fal'Len - #1 Thread in MMO

I'm trying not to blame WoW but the "quest to level up" concept is grouping unfriendly. Either you coordinate together and only play together, so always have the same quests, or one or the other is getting the short end of the stick. Also why groups have no lasting power in such games, you might...

    Neo's Land

As far as MMOs go graphics seem to matter to most players. Look at EQN and how many jumped ship because of the graphics and style choices (many jumped ship for more/other reasons too). A game's choice of style and graphics definitely matter to me - but it has to work for the game and be...

I dont give much credit to him beyond combining MUDs and DOOM, most of what made EQ great came as a surprise to everyone. But he's worked in the genre for a long time so even without prodigy powers he might make a good world sim.

    Pan'Theon: Rise' of th'e Fal'Len - #1 Thread in MMO

I wouldnt need the game to be popular really - but I would want it to be successful enough to run a decade. That doesnt mean popular as much as it means a company that knows what it can more important what it cannot do, that knows it's scope and limits. Sigil certainly failed that, maybe McQuaid...

    Guild Wars 2

I think the issue that "endgame" for GW2 is such a nebulous thing. There is nothing you NEED to gear up for once you get 80 and buy a cheap exotic set (except high fractals), so like Draegan says you have to set your own goals, the game is not really providing a progression. Although I guess...

For me it's definitely the slippery slope argument. I have less faith in SOE to preserve the franchise and lore integrity of Everquest then I have in Blizzard to preserve it for Warcraft. And Blizzard gave us motorcycles and spaceships because I guess it's warcrafty. So why would I believe SOE...

There was even a whole junkpile robot plane with the spider from that Will Smith movie as a boss iirc. But it's all about taking all those modern concepts and then making them "everquesty". You missed the catch then. They asked if modern concepts are ok using two easy examples. The round table probably has "...nope" majority but I, too, dont care enough anymore to look it up. Your best raid or mass pvp experience across the genre?

The nature of the people playing and Blizzard accomodating them is probably the reason for 99% of changes in the near-decade of WoW. And even if most here no longer appreciate it, I bet there are people every experiencing stuff in WoW that they would consider worthy of this thread.

Maybe a bit of Hartsman keeping it real is just what McQuaid needs. Afaik Trion is dead in the water anyway, he could sell the remaining wreckage to some MMO hobos and get on board with this.

    Pan'Theon: Rise' of th'e Fal'Len - #1 Thread in MMO

Well the thing is most people want a game first, then the fluff. What you are describing would require making a world first and then allow playing in it. I doubt anyone that is out for money will put more emphasis on that immersion then they have to.

If you're not dabbling in crafting or WvW then you're falling behind unless you go explore some on your own regardless of "quest hubs" (I dont really consider a heart or two a quest hub). If you dont like exploring or crafting, the easiest way to stay on curve is switching to another zone string...
