Unless you catch it by surprise with nets and shit, any dragon with an ounce of self-preservation will take off and flee when it sees an overwhelming zerg approaching. Dynamic raid caps thanks to AI, griefing opportunities included.

There werent any sweeping changes since january but lots of small stuff was changed/added. They attached a grind to WvW so it feels a bit more meaningful, slowly move SPvP towards esports and introduced a bi-weekly circus for PvE players. Basically a new darkmoon faire every two weeks with...

The AI shouldnt aim too high. The dumb orc hacks away at whatever comes in front of him is ok with me. Give creatures recurring behaviour patterns and you change combat. That *can* involve some smarter opponents gouging the melee that was distracting them and charging a priest, but it doesnt...

The question is how much are you giving up to get those tankish abilities? It is balance they have to strike, but everyone here is (rightly) worried that tanks will be pointless and glass cannons will rule the day. Now consider their inspirations from LoL, I think there have been long stretches...

The answer is the same as in current MMOs. Content has to be challenging enough to warrant bringing the specialized classes, otherwise you are better off with more dps. As long as the roles are there (and from all we know they will be) everything else hinges on how the content is designed...

SB has been worked on for years, and not just to make money asap by half-assing it into something sellable. So their foundation is probably solid. Implementation in EQN might just be on paper but I think thats no big hurdle.

We have too little information to set realistic expectations at this time. So given that I think some expect too much from it. Here's what I expect: The core of your standings to all npcs are faction standings just like EVE has. You have a starting value depending character creation, and all...

Character slots are non-factor for monetization unless there are yet unknown reason to have several characters on one account because its F2P. I mean I'd buy them, but it is 100% convenience because I dont want to manage more gaming accounts then I already do. I havent seen much info on the...

Fuck you, I want seasons (and weather). SB is going to be great with seasons and NPCs adjusting their behaviour depending on that. Havent read any word on wether that is something that might actually go in though.

You are right, it will be more depth. Even if the class+weapon sets number is the same, you can with mix the class abilities in the other 4 slots freely with very little restriction. It is more of a GW1 system with just the GW2 locked weapon skills + swapping thrown in.

Sounds like it, and works for me. I can deal with starting out with a sword+shield as my dorf warrior, I'll just hurry the fuck up to get my hands on class that uses an axe. What kinda dorf uses a sword?

Personal loot ala diablo 3 and GW2 maybe? Not sure if I would like it but it certainly eliminates the issue. Come to think of it its better then badges because it still has more adventure and less working shifts feel then badges.

Sounds more like they are making warrior-ish classes for different weapons but obviously only one can actually be called by that name. Warrior: mace+shield, 2handed axe Warlord: polearm, shield +javelin swordmaster: 2handed sword, 1handed sword + whatever juggernaut: 2handed hammer...

Bolded for emphasis. I find races just for the pretty skin to be a waste of potential variety and different experiences that are possible if you drop something like Storybricks on a foundation like the EQ1 faction relationships. Races, deity choice and class choice where what determined your...

It's an interesting premise for "a game", but it really goes against my expectations for the name Everquest. I have to watch myself on this topic or I go full qwerty. I just want my trolls and ogres to be roasting dwarfs and elves, not toasting to them.

The obvious reply would be immersion - exceptional characters in a fantasy setting mastering different skill sets is not unusual. Conan and Elminster both multiclassed =) That aside, because most people dont give a shit about immersion, it might break the underlying faction system. In a "2...

You could just roll that alt then. I'm not averse to manning up for the grind but if the game has the features they announced so far I'm gonna make at least two characters, instead of acquiring all those classes on the same one. A dorf warrior/rogue and an enchanter, race undecided. I think...

That among other reasons is why I want several distinct cities. If the world is large enough like they claim it wouldnt lead to newbie zone next to newbie zone, but the experience is much more different then being a good or evil elf but both from qeynos.
  19. Mr Creed

Even IF the combat behaviour becomes predictable with experience, I am ok with it since it is different from "every mob acts the same, beeline to attack range and then stand there. That's even kinda neat. If you track and kill your first bear alone in the woods it is going to be a different hunt...

I'm not so sure DE are just elves, the visuals are different (horns or more ears or whatever) and the events from that short story were centuries ago leaving them stranded god knows where (PoH is just speculation I think?). Unless you consider EQ1 DE as just elves too, which is a valid view.

They left that door open by saying there were pro-combine elements amongst the iksar that might have joined the other races on their exodus to qeynos. I hope they do different starting cities, it was in the QA as we dont talk about that, so they might have an interesting solution. What I...

I think looking forward Blizzard has lost it's relevance for the genre, they are becoming too slow and unflexible to compete. I expect Titan in like 7 years and mostly featuring "new" stuff that's actually been live in other games for a couple of years by then. No matter if they canned the...

I'm entirely sure that wont be a thing in EQN. It's a common way to monetize old subscription games that are "over the hill" so to speak. See EQ1, EQ2, TOR (well some get there faster then others). EQN is probably closer to the convenience cash shops like EQN or PS2 that mostly save you time...

Well at that time raid caps and min-maxing them was there in full force - early EQ difficulty could largely be reduced with more players, so everyone experienced that era very differently. My guild was usually low on players due to the time zone situation and I felt stuff genuinely...

Everything I've read so far seems to indicate there is no autoattack. Judging from my admittedly short stint in TOR, that is probably going to suck. You cite "bleeding edge raiding" in WoW to illustrate that WoW presents more risks then EQ did? I didnt actually do VP when it was fresh but I think it would've been a contender on the risks/logistics of CR alone. That's kinda the problem - I would say Tad's 250k are way on the low end. My own made-up estimate is 500k. But those 500k do not want the same EQHD, instead there's a half-dozen subgroups that would belittle the image of EQHD that the other players hold. if they make it their subs will spike to...

He still has a point though - they can put the hours required to make EQHD work into EQN (obviously for different stuff, just talking time invested). Using Tad's napkin math of 250k players and assuming its a good 100k that drop EQ1/2 for it, you get 150k new subs. I would be surprised if those...

So what are the odds that Hartsman saw considers the demand for an EQHD sufficiently big to make that game with a target audience of a mill subs (not f2p)? I guess I would be ok with that, although I'm worried that what counts as "effort" these days equates to 5 dailies. I remember it was lauded as a great idea in several threads over the last few years. I would like the switching to be tiered in difficulty/effort required. I have no illusions about anything like that being considered for EQN but here's how I would do it: Easy switching: Keeping your class...

Buffs should be done GW1 style - make them an aura that takes up the respective slot but is always on. I know you guys *loved* your buff bots but that's another EQ remnant I hope this game leaves behind. If you want the buff, someone in the group should slot the ability. If the aura is...

My outlook is very much the same, but there is one difference I find important - factions and that your choice of who you wanted to be, race/class/religion, determined your initial place in the world, that you could shape however you wanted once you started adventuring. Nothing against you but I sure hope you cannot do that. That's the attitude that is driving this genre isnt the ground right there. Must Have Now, skip as much of the game as possible, invalidate as much content as possible. Without trying to be offensive but you're asking for the equivalent...

Unfortunately, that logic applies to any game. Hell even EVE is certainly getting easier and removing tedium to become more accessible.
