This argument is terrible. The system was alright until it was just the defaut through two full expansions and maybe a third. If I'm expected to do dailies for the duration of my time playing than that means I'm not going to be playing for all that long.

I don't dislike them but for spectators they might overpower visually the rest of the play field. I'm picturing an overhead camera at an event and it's the lands that look like they're where all the action takes place.
