I tried FfXII and the UI always prevented me from really getting in to it, among other major flaws. I suspect the UI was made for a game controller, not mouse and keyboard. Good news is that they fixed all the flaws in ffxiv(next online one). Go play that instead

I mean, the thread has those answers but basically yes you can do that with fxiv. It only gets twitchy at the top top level. Otherwise plenty to do and pretty fun in my opinion. Plus you can play any class on a whim without switching characters

Ooma can do the recording thing and has some other options like private bridges. Not sure if that costs extra or not since i dont use those features.
