    What do you do?

As mentioned I worked at home and loved it, of course I lived in the very very sticks at the time (nearest neighbor about 7 miles away) and I didn't have to clock in or whatever. If I needed a break to clear my mind I just walked outside and shot steel plate targets or sat on the deck and...

Probably have to factor in a lot of stuff not money related, how bad do you hate traffic and commuting? How much do you need that 20% to live on? Peace of mind has a lot more value to me, but a lot of people want the most dollar.

    Indiana...Religious Freedom eh? *sigh*

I'm not a legal scholar obviously. So the supreme court says a police officer has no duty to protect a citizen, I guess as long as they don't say they didn't do it on religious grounds it's OK? But if you decline to bake a cake you're in more trouble legally than a police officer that decides...

    What do you do?

I was self employed for almost 20 years and I worked at home. I didn't have to take a pay cut so no help there. I enjoyed it. If you don' thave a strict schedule you can fall into the trap of "I have two weeks to do this...and fuck off for a week and then bust ass for a week to get it done"...

So you are compeled to bake a cake, but the supreme court rules police have no duty to protect. Got it.

But like I said I own land and a house that came with it in what is probably the bottom 10 in TX and I still can't see that bottom number being middle class there. Maybe it's skewed by abentee landowners like myself I dunno. Maybe it's skewed by the number of retirees. The county has 1/2 the...

In dry counties and neighboring non dry counties in TX because they didn't want the trash drinking they went to memberships. You go out to eat at a restaurant and add $1.00 to the bill to become a member and drink (one person per table). If you're trash or someone they don't want to serve to...

Like I said I understand that in very populated areas. San Antonio is freaking huge and spread out, but people have decided they rather have upteen upgrades and a 4,500 square foot house on a 8,000 square foot lot. That's fine. Just don't understand the people who can't see the flip side of...

Mentioned it several times before. Hello private clubs for a business even if we sell cakes. Charge $1.00 to join and just throw it on the bill. Ooooh sorry we're not taking new members today or we're full. Multiple ways to skin a cat.

Right now I live about 5 minutes or less from the city limits of the 7th most populated city in the US. Not exactly in the middle of nowhere. I own a house that I currently don't livein that's in the middle of nowhere because it went with land that I did a 3 way land exchange for with the US...

Non housing derail. Just saw this. How much you have to earn to be considered middle class in every US state - Yahoo Finance I want to know where you live in TX that $35k counts as middle class. I own land and a house in a very rural area in East, TX which is pretty damn poor and $35k...

About 1/3 of our office are CA transplants since our parent company is located in the bay area. They are in the process of moving more towards TX. The company has built most of the skyline of SF and I met the owner for the first time last week (I've only been there 2 months). We shared a ride in...

I guess if you like living 3ft. from someone and literally in a lot of these subidivisions you can touch your house and your neighbors house at the same time and it's a $300k+ house. My biggest issue is real estate agents who don't understand not everyone likes to live like that. I give them...

    What do you do?

I understand it in highly populated areas. But these are suburbs pretty much in the middle of nowhere, you can drive 5 minutes in a couple of directions on be where houses are on multiple acres (sometimes LOTS more). You drive thru the hill country of nothing but ranches and then boom, 200...

    What do you do?

I don't understand it, rather have a smaller house and a bigger lot big enough to have a garage to park the cars in rather than the road. Not a fan of houses with the garage in the front either. Looks like they designed the house around the garage. I realise lots of people can't afford the...

Her sister lives on Lake Travis. I went and visited. I looked up the house next door since it was for sale. Only $16 million. Nice house, but it didn't do anything for me. If I live where I pay $16 million for a house I don't want to see neigbhors, and damn near not close enough to have a...

My girlfriend drives a Maserati. It's a nice car...but she makes about 1/4 what I do and she always complains of how expensive shit is where she lives and the price of home ownership/rent is going up up up (Austin). Of course I make 4x what she makes and I drive a 7 year old truck I paid $27k...

Mostly in the firearm industry. As noted even when the laws don't specify sending to an FFL lots of places now just refuse to ship straight to CA. I have also seen it in hobby related businesses online, they just refuse to ship to CA mostly for whatever reason not related to a rule on...

    Equal Pay for Equal Work?

I guess I'm in the really super minority. I never cared what someone else at work was making. I figured I agreed to what I wanted to make for X job when I went to work there regardless of what someone else was making. Never understood it. As far as my employer knows I have a GED (which I do)...

You realise most of that was people who were dyed in the wool democrats. You couldn't find a democrat in the south until just recently. In fact it was in my lifetime that a lot of counties in the deep south even had a a republican primary for state and local elections.

    What tickles your pickle

When I started my new job 3 months ago they gave me a week off at a future date (now) to go home and get my stuff in order which I thought wasn't bad. Company jet picks me up Monday at an airport 10 minutes away and I get dropped off an airport literally 5 miles from my house. I could used...

Just got in from setting my mount and tripod for a night of viewing. Going to start out with a 102mm refractor and graduate to an 8" newt. These were the only two telescopes I had handy since I moved. No idea where my 12v powersource is located, so goto and no guiding tonight. All manual.

I still fail to see the issue, as mentioned above make it a club where you instantly make people join for a small fee of $1.00 or whatever and it's good for a year. They do that in lots of other "retail" type businesses like bars and retaurants. Don't want to server them, fine "you're not a member".

    What vehicle do you drive?

KBB gives a private party price in good shape and it has 72,000 miles on it in 8 years so it's in pretty good shape and nobody ever sat in the other 3 seats - a price of around $17k which seems really high considering I paid $23k for it new.

    What vehicle do you drive?

Any experience on how accurate the online price guides like NADA and Kelly blue book are for selling a used vehicle? I'm thinking of selling one of my trucks and it seems like the price they come up with to sell to a private party is incredibly high. Like 70-75% of what I paid for it and it's an...
