DotF was never well-written, and I got bored of it eventually, but I'll still give the guy credit for keeping absurd amounts of power creep going far longer than I thought was possible.

A lot of them start as web serials, so there is a strong incentive to keep going as long as possible when it is successful, as there's no guarantee that new series will receive the same degree of success. The same kind of applies to regular publishing as well, but to a lesser extent as the...

    Predator: Killer of Killers (2025)

I liked this - constant action, almost no character building, good animation, moderately interesting stories. The bad - shitty framerate, and while the viking story was decent, the japan one was good, the american one leaned way too hard into the absurd. The logic for how the end fight played...

    Ballerina (2024)

I thought this was not bad, if a bit overdone - could use some editing, like the first time she spoilers a group of guys, it was pretty cool, but after victim number 40 or so it was wearing a bit thin. I will say though : Now starring - Mecha-O'Shane, The Ghoul of Gabriel Byre, Lance...

    Alien: Earth

I want to say I watched them, but I think the memories have been repressed due to trauma ;p I'd be right there with you, if the writers, producers or directors have any overlap with the movies, but I don't think they do ? Genuine question though - what makes something 'zoomer slop' ? I would...

I dunno what all the bizarre negativity ever since it was announced is about, but the trailer looks pretty good.

    Doctor Who

No. The good storylines pretty much left when Moffat did. That era was kind of an anomaly, historically Dr Who has always been a low budget kid's show, and the quality of writing was wildly all over the place, but usually below average.

To be fair, biblical angels literal descriptions are pretty horrifying. I suspect there's more going on here with that though - there's clearly some very weird shit going on with their world.

Hey ! I... uh.. have no comeback to this. :)

Baldur's Gate 3 by Larian Games

If that's your main concern, there's no worry there - it supports full turn based mode. Now as for recommendation - I am guessing you aren't a Pathfinder expert, or you would have already played it. So - how would you rate yourself on the neckbearded autist scale ? 0 - do not recommend 1-5 -...

    Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

100% this - you have no chance with the sound off, think of it more like a rhythm game than lightning reflexes. The video above is hilariously accurate in that respect ;p

    Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

So finished up all the side stuff. If this isn't game of the year, that will be fantastic news, because it would mean that 2025 was one of the best years for gaming ever. If the soundtrack isn't best of the year, then that's clear proof the gaming awards are rigged ;p Ending spoilers:

See, what you are missing here is the AI revolution. With Erso dead, they needed a new death star, but had no-one to design it, so the Emperor trained an AI model on Erso's work on the original death star, and it faithfully copied the critical vulnerabilities as being a required component...

    Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

It's a little easier to just buff her crit and then do elemental trick ( gives you the 4 elemental stains ), then elemental genesis. Unfortunately this becomes mostly useless later in act 2 when you run into elemental absorb enemies. Lune is still the GOAT* of act2 damage though, you can just...

    Love, Death & Robots

The chinese dinosaur racing and the nazi demons were ok, the rest was kind of meh to outright bad. Overall a swing and a miss for this season I think. No great stories, no amazing animation. Shame.

    Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

Yeah. I think I enjoyed the way they tell the story at the start the most out of any RPG I have played. It's an original and wildly unique setting, and they just give no fucks about explaining things, you'll work it out as you go. The whole vibe of these people being absolutely fucked in a...

    Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

It doesn't matter really - agi is probably the most generally useful, but the difference between getting 1 turn for each turn of the monsters and getting 2 turns for each turn of the monsters is pretty huge, so a lot of the time it isn't doing much past given breakpoints. All the stats kinda...

    Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

I think their intention for the midgame is that you try out different builds as you go - there's not a lot of weapon upgrades, but there's a pretty smooth curve of upgraded weapons of different types.

    Murderbot

Seems pretty good so far. The opening is way out of line with the books, but it's probably a fakeout given what happens later. Show murderbot is visually more terminator than robocop, probably because they wanted more Skarsgaard nudity.

    Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

I went back through the early areas after unlocking the paint spike destruction, and I had missed sooooo much stuff ( not related to the spikes ). I somehow managed to miss both dead energy and dead energy 2, which would have saved so much time in the early game ;p

'Toxic Masculinity', lol. That works on so many levels. The trailer looks pretty good.

    The Last of Us

Is there some game context here ? I thought from the show that FEDRA was basically the 'fuck your democracy, we have the guns' faction ? Do they even have citizens or elections ?

    LitRPG

Void is on point here I think - it does get a lot better once it gets its own style going, but gradually gets less interesting over time. I wouldn't recommend it in the current state, but some of the earlier-mid stuff was pretty good.

There is, as far as I can tell, no sex, romance, serious relationships, or even flirting in the whole series. That's just a weird bit of characterization.

I was reminded of this discussion when I was reading one recently. https://www.amazon.com.au/Antimage-Isekai-LitRPG-Adventure-Magic-ebook/dp/B0CJBL9RXV For a real high level summary, guy gets isekaied to fantasy world by an archmage, who turns out to be.. uh, a bit of an asshat. ( Really...

    Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

Honestly, I would have thought I would hate the parry/dodge system before I tried it, but it's actually kinda fun, although rage inducing at times. It's not all or nothing though, from what I have seen: Regular mobs - you can just ignore parry/dodge completely, checkpoints are common, healing...

Wait, what ? All of those had wildly ballooning budgets, Stranger Things is like the worst case of that to have ever existed in TV I think - it went from like 3mil/ep s1 to 30mil/ep s4.

I thought the ep1 heist was great, an amusing poke at the general star wars trend of 'spaceships are basically magical horses, anyone can ride one to anywhere in zero elapsed time and they don't need fuel'

    Daredevil: Born Again

I watch Daredevil for the action and fight choreography and this delivered.... for the first and last episodes. Pity about the rest of it. If I wanted to watch a show about marriage counseling I'd turn the tv off and go outside while there is still time. Has there ever been a story about...

    Black Mirror

I actually stopped common people and came back to finish it later because it was too depressing. It's very Black Mirror though. Overall I thought the season was pretty good, even if some of them leaned more into outright sci-fi than the usual fare. One minor thing that bugged me about...

The first ep was pretty boring, but I though that one was really good. Some great action, although I am forced to wonder about using fuel bombs right next to a wooden palisade.

Yeah, the first loop is definitely the weakest - was why I was lukewarm toward it at first. It picks up significantly after the first time she gets killed. As for Ritley - it has racism and lesbians in it, but it's not a story about racism or lesbians, nor is it preachy or moralistic. If the...

Been a while since I recommended anything - too much to follow, and lot of things kind of fizzle out, so I like to give it at least a completed book's worth before suggesting. With those criteria met, I offer up : Years of Apocalypse This a time loop story with considerably more going on than...

    Summer 2024 Anime Thread

This is pretty fun - what's the shameful lies about him only having one good skill though ? He also clearly has SSS rank denseness - who needs depleted uranium when you can use this guy's grasp of subtext as a weapon. Still - 'rescued girl from angry cow' is pretty good as a first adventure ;p
