You're right. So probably Alan Dean Foster then, specialist in novelization of movies and TV.

A Song of Ice and Fire (Released Spoilers)

The usual joke is that the last two volumes will have Brandon Sanderson on the cover name along with GRRM (cough, Wheel of Time, cough).

Final Fantasy XIV (Guide in first post)

I am reminded of that old game, Anarchy Online, where one race was entirely clones and thus, while technically "neutral", was exclusively over-steroided males. I wonder if they changed that. It would seem a perfect target to massive outrage. Probably too small these days to even attract attention.

    The Astronomy Thread

Lunar telescopes are... problematic. First of all, day-night does not matter much for the observation - shield it from the reflections of the ground, and the sky remains dark anyway, since there is no atmosphere to scatter solar light. But it matters a lot for engineering. The difference in...

Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis

Phantasy Star is a game franchise that tried to copy Final Fantasy, stayed mediocre, and led to PSO, which - like the PSO2 - was a game with about as much content releases as a B-tier game. PSO2 was emptying quickly in its Japan incarnation, so they tried a "ARR" with New Genesis, but they...

    Fractured - The Dynamic MMO

Gamigo is the graveyard where games go to die. They have a zombie powder to keep them shambling around with zero updates, no support, and harvest as much as they can from the decaying corpse, before they finally shutter the server (because they rarely maintain more than one).

They've increased that to 21k last Wednesday. But otherwise, it's essentially correct - once the total in the queues get too high, then you need to babysit your queue by having a second (and third) client ready to fire up and recover, since the 2002 error kills your client instead of sending you...

Final Fantasy XIV (Guide in first post)

I've had a smooth connected experience, but just a couple hours ago, we were four of my guild doing a dungeon, and we got hit by a lag spike (and wiped), but one of us was disconnected - and found herself with a 3000+ queue, so she wasn't going to come back. The queues themselves have been...

    Blizzard dies and Bobby rides

One of the things YoshiP repeatedly said is that FF14 wouldn't exist without WoW. Square Enix learned from WoW. A lot. And that's what Blizzard failed to. Blizzard has - or rather, used to - been able to learn from others, to deliver stuff that distilled the best of a genre. And then, they...

Final Fantasy XIV (Guide in first post)

It's a matter of timing. If you take more than 1min between the moment the login server times you out (which may be before the client notifies you) and you re-enter the queue, you lose your place. A friend of mine got a solution: after you're in queue, login again and start a second client, and...

    Blizzard dies and Bobby rides

I'm not into RTSes at all. I got a free copy of SC2 which I never ever registered on B.Net, and although I tried WC3 at the time, I quickly removed it from my then-PC. I want my strategy games measured in Minutes-per-Turn, not Actions-Per-Minute.

Final Fantasy XIV (Guide in first post)

Prime time in EU isn't the right time to try. It's not the 4k+ queue that's the problem. It's the disconnect, and by the time you managed to relaunch twice the client (because the first time gave you a 2002), you're at the back of the queue, 500 places further away than when you started. Not...

    Blizzard dies and Bobby rides

Blizzard repeatedly gave a day, sometimes three or more of free time when stuff happened. At least, that was the case early on. My sub history would include those free days, so they were easy to spot. But that was always for downtime, not queues. Of course, they almost never had those problems...

It looks like they've moved the AFK code from client-side to server-side. Unless you send a new command to the server because you are doing something, the server will boot you. That's why any interface opened won't work anymore, not any form of auto-stuff (like running or auto-attacking).

Humankind (Civ-style game from Amplitude Studios)

Most of the regular studios that do OSX tend to do a good job. A lot of Paradox titles, for instance, are day 1 clean releases (those that are on OSX). That's why I believed Amplitude, after all. I've written off the game, uninstalled the rest of the Endless stuff (which I tended not to play...

I've yet to play. I should launch it for at least 5mn so that I can review bomb it on steam. I play on OSX. All of Amplitude Games were always on OSX, so when they said for their first game post-SEGA purchase that it would be on Mac, but "shortly after release", I simply pre-ordered, and...

    World of Warcraft: Current Year

That's what happens if you insist on every single expansion making the others obsolete and having nothing to do whatsoever with the others. You're not playing World of Warcraft, you're playing WoW1: Vanilla, WoW2: TBC, WoW3: WotLK, ... Wow8: BfA, WoW9: Shadowlands.

There's quite a few impressive bosses of the Library, but I'd go for Erathostenes (the first person to calculate almost correctly the circumference of the Earth).
