There was some discussion on whether he had hit the puck first before he started pushing on the pad. Not sure if it's a situation where the ref has to blow the whistle for a frozen puck first or not. It didn't burn us in the end, but seems a weird precedent to possibly set.

So apparently you can just push a goalie's pad/leg into the net to let a puck go in behind it and it's not goalie interference. Good to know.

Yeah, I mean I remember reading a stat that most years, the teams in playoff position either by Thanksgiving or turn of New Year are usually the ones at the end of the season...barring maybe one outlying team potentially getting in. East was definitely separated this year in a top 8 and the rest.

Honestly, this might be the best track to take long term for them. Go for it with Lamar for the next couple years, but don't get stuck into a long term deal when he's likely to be injured or just past his prime where he can make as many plays with his legs. The guy is a better passer than some...

As a team with similar goaltending questions/issues, I can relate, but I've seen a few blown leads that hasn't been all on the goalie/s by them that makes one wonder. Florida is just a whole extra level, they almost remind me of the 2010 Caps.

Aside from this late push to get out of a wild card spot (and early exit against Florida), really want Ovechkin to get his 9th 50 goal season. Has had a 49 goal year, 32 in 48 games in a lockout shortened season, and had 48 with like 13 games to play when covid stopped the one year. Already...

Better game by us tonight for sure, but it's hard to get excited with florida looming as likely Round 1 match up. I'd feel better against Carolina. Just don't think we can score nearly enough consistently to keep up with Panthers, and neither of our goalies is going Halak on that team.
