    The Boys

Oh I've seen the live series -- Should have been more clear, I didn't mean content, I just meant the combination of the content with a cutesy kids-cartoon looking style. That short-circuited something in my brain.

    Moon Knight

Yeah I never spent any money on it either, but definitely dumped hundreds of hours into it. Was a surprisingly satisfying ARPG, and I enjoyed playing 90% of the characters -- especially the ones with bouncy-chain abilities.

    Moon Knight

Lol shit this looks great. Hope they can pull it off live action.

    Moon Knight

Goddammit I miss Marvel Heroes. Spent so much time playing that game... probably second only to @Gavinmad. Had like 10 cosmic re-rolls or whatever that was at level 60.

Wow, that's fucking demented. Not sure what to think about it lol.

You might wanna ease up on that 420, Mr Holland, that was pretty fucking incoherent.

    Horizon 2: Forbidden West

Progression needs to have an end-point IMO. As much as I enjoyed AC:Odyssey, I really didn't care much for the constant scaling of everything, which is what's required if you're going to go with constant progression. I'd gain a level and be worse off until I upgraded my weapon.

    Horizon 2: Forbidden West

They seemed pretty responsive to me. I recently played AC:Odyssey, and am currently playing Guardians of the Galaxy, and both are noticeably worse... especially GotG. Super sluggish.

    Horizon 2: Forbidden West

I was going to say the same thing. The gameplay of the first was fantastic, but what made the game so great as a whole was uncovering the lore and story. They did that SO fucking well. This one needs to be just as good if not better in that regard or it will disappoint.

    The Last Duel (2021)

Watched this last night with the gf, didn't know anything about it going in. As mentioned, the actual duel was pretty fantastic. Completely brutal. That said, the standout moments for me involved Trusting The Science(tm): -In Act 3, the wife visiting the doctor who's explaining why she isn't...

    Moon Knight

Weight loss makes him dedicated, but not necessarily talented. I've yet to see a role where I thought Leto did anything more than an average job. But, I haven't seen DBC, because quite frankly I have less than zero interest in a movie about AIDS.

    Moon Knight

You know that's Christian Bale, right? Who, yes, is a very talented character actor.

    The Matrix Resurrections (2021)

Haha wow that's terrible. Didn't notice when we watched it since my gf converted me to subtitles-always.
  14. Seananigans

    Moon Knight

Yeah, I'd bet high level of interest in fucked up characters correlates to bad results for the actor. And it's possible high level of interest is a foregone conclusion if the actor does anything resembling a fantastic job of portraying it.

    Moon Knight

I'll be curious to see what happens to Isaac in the near term future. Extremely talented actors getting into really mind-fucked characters can often end poorly for the actor. See Ledger/Joker. Never happened with Leto since he's not particularly talented, nor Nicholson since they went campy...

Elden Ring - From Software + George RR Martin

That seems really cool that they're making magic casts combo/chainable like weapons.

Utnayan backlog challenge: part 2 ends Jan 31

Yeah fair enough, for sure. I'm one of those completionist idiots. But I also have a swathe of games that I'm only interested in beating once and that's all. As mentioned a couple pages ago, my other target for January is Doom:Eternal, which I just plan to beat and not 100%. My next PS title is...

Utnayan backlog challenge: part 2 ends Jan 31

For me it depends on the game whether or not I feel like Platinum. God of War was definitely one where I wanted to. It's just that good.

Utnayan backlog challenge: part 2 ends Jan 31

Sokrates was pretty funny, probably my favorite part of the game. That and just shanking countless thugs repeatedly, for some reason that never got old. Clearing an entire fort via assassination, while halfway through the remaining soldiers are casually disposing of bodies after wondering...

Utnayan backlog challenge: part 2 ends Jan 31

Got Assassins Creed: Odyssey platinum this weekend. ~75 hours played to get that, pretty entertaining game, had never played one of these until this one. They removed the ability to see trophies on the PlayStation site in a browser which is super fucking gay, so I used the mobile app rather...

    Playstation 5

They're becoming much more available, seems like you'd be better off waiting and getting what you want rather than paying $1k for a bunch of crap you don't want.

    The Legend of Vox Machina

Those voices sound quite a bit different than what I recall from watching that on Crit Role back in '17 or whenever. But the cast appears to be all the same people. I'm guessing they refined/changed their voices for the animated show?

    Dexter: New Blood

Yeah that's what I said. The case was going to magically hold up because the writers wanted Angela to be a prescient super-goddess of crime solvering in this instance, despite not having a fucking clue on the Kurt murders for years. So Dexter's character was responding to the bullshit context...

    Dexter: New Blood

There's a lot to complain about with this, but I'm going to disagree the Logan thing is one of them. We have no basis for saying that was a shark jump. We've never seen Dexter in full-blown "I'm going away for life" panic mode. In the context of a small-town police chief magically connecting...

    Don't Look Up (2021)

I'm not sure how people think they were making fun of both "sides" with this horseshit. This was 100% Hollywood denigrating conservatives as morally inferior idiots, while they pat themselves on the back for being the smart morally righteous people who are simply saddled with having to deal with...

Utnayan backlog challenge: part 2 ends Jan 31

This. I'm also in the middle of it, and enjoying it. But jesus, they somehow made it even MORE of a frenetic spam-fest than the first. Still willing to pay $$ for a modern engine remake of DOOM and DOOM2. Fast-paced old-style is better than the frenetic melee and cooldown management style. As...

What are your Top 10 games on Steam by Playtime?

Hilariously it's dominated by some stupid idle games I fucked around with. XCOM representing!

    Arcane

This show is now my gold standard for what animated shows should be. I've never seen an animated show capture emotion so well, allowing me to be invested in characters and care about the story as if it were live action. They knocked this shit out of the park imo. Bonus points because the SJW...

    Wheel of Time

It does a good job of reinforcing The Great Narrative. Thus, plenty of people like it because they belong to a fucking cult.

    Wheel of Time

I'm catching up on this thread, but fuck me. The only thing I could think while suffering through this show (a favor to the gf, who hasn't read the books) was: Why couldn't the Wheel of Time IP been given to the Arcane/Riot folks? Arcane's animation was exactly where it needs to be to finally...

    General Gaming News and Discussion

Ha! The past 3 posts describe exactly how the industry can get away with it. Each transaction has its own niche of gamers who are willing to pay for it, while each niche laments it as a whole. I'm guilty of it too, we probably all are to some extent.

    Wheel of Time

This property, like so many others, would be so much better as an animated series. Animation has come so far that it is my preferable format to live-action for 90% of fantasy/sci-fi.

    Mortal Shell - Soulslike RPG

I think maps but no GPS is the best. Maps are just too damn fun (for me) to browse and dig into. And if it's a well-crafted world, I'm easily able to reference landmarks/etc to use the maps to get around. I'm not against GPS but it doesn't belong in every game, far from it.

    Thor: Love and Thunder (2021)

My only issue with fat Thor was one of disappointment. Thor was close to my favorite char after Ragnarok, and had one of the coolest arcs in the MCU. I was hoping for Thor badassery in Endgame, and got fat Thor instead. It was well done, and it fit well. It just wasn't what I was hoping for...
