It would take 4k + really big textures + a bunch of extra effects to hit 10gb. If the 3080 is really a 320W+ card, I just don't see the fucking point of it. Anyone that can build around that much power consumption + heat is just going to buy the 3090 at thirty more watts and not give a shit...

The 3080 really should have been 12gb, that seems plenty practical for 4k or triple 1440p. 16gb doesn't seem like something you would ever really hit.

Depends what model you wanted, you could definitely get stock ones for fairly close to 1000-1100, when they were in stock. It's just most third party partners put some base level factory OC on them and a better cooler and sold them for 1200ish.

I mean, VRAM usage mostly just scales with pixel count. Some additional usage for shaders and effects and stuff, but 90% just raw pixel count.

AMD's midrange cards are generally good in terms of raw horsepower per dollar but still lacking in actual optimized driver support in games. Games that support Vulkan are the huge exception to this however. AMD's high end cards are expensive blow dryers.
