It isn't hard to see that a card which generates BBB each turn for a casting cost of B is insanely OP. One mana ramp gives one mana, and it usually doesn't on the turn you play it.

I can't help but feel deathrite was banned to make burn and goblins playable at a competitive level. Which didn't work out, since the problem is the powerlevel of those deck is too low, not a single card keeping them down. The first card is complete ass and the second is OP as fuck, a sorcery...

This is why I've always complained about the name and release strategy of EQ2. They split up the EQ population, but EQ2 wasn't the same kind of (hardcore) game, so they ended up drawing EQ players into a game that didn't appeal to them for long.
