The Higher Education Thread: Justify Poor Life Choices

I'm absolutely not. Ability to work hard is way more economically valuable than intelligence in the vast majority of cases.

When I was a professional tutor at the community college for 4 years, a large amount of my students were CNAs. Most were dumb as fucking shit. These dumbshits took up slots on the waiting list for the actual nursing program, slots that could have gone to people who had already completed 1 or...

I didn't say there was anything wrong with that. I said merely that doctor doesn't necessarily imply that someone is particularly smart. If you look at statistics, only a few specialties of doctors have greater than mean IQs. Some even have lower than mean IQs. Being a doctor means you are...

Children shouldn't be punished for having bad parents. However, there's very little you can do to fix this besides charter boarding schools.

You clearly didn't read my post, since I didn't mention anything about 7th and 8th grade being bad due to poor quality teachers. Most children are difficult to educate at those ages, this is just a fact.

I wasn't mixing them up, I was just making a related statement about how useless CNAs are.

The smartest person I've ever met is a kid I went to high school with who got a degree in EE, worked in the field for 18 months, then decided he wanted to be a doctor instead of programming sonar systems. He is a cardiologist now. He told me "it's staggering how many not-very-smart people...

Tracking overwhelmingly favors students who have parents who have been preparing them for high school/college since they were old enough to sit up and hold a book in their hands, so yes, it usually favors certain subsets of mostly white people.

Medical school is an entirely different animal. Medical school in its current form is an invention of the AMA and I have no idea how you would even improve it. The general idea of it is semi-sound, you pay a lot up front, and then the back half, you're getting paid while you learn. As for...

I actually think we do elementary education pretty well in most parts of the country. If you talk with educators, 7th and 8th grade are like completely lost years for most students. This is where the problem starts. At that age, a small subset, less than 10%, of students are already mentally...

I disagree almost completely. Forcing people to get a well-rounded education is actually one of the few things that works about the university system. Highly intelligent people benefit from a well-rounded education more than average people do, though. The mix should be played with a bit...

No. Our high schools are fucking broken and that's a big part of why college is so useless. So much of what ends up being taught in college is stuff that should have been taught in high school, but wasn't because our high schools are just mind-blowingly bad in this country, on average...

Research institutions only further prove my point. The research associates are getting paid for their work, it's an actual job that pays money, not merely a set of classes that cost money. But at those research institutions, the actual education of students is secondary. Most of the...

Basically all degrees are useless, because college is useless. Almost nothing you could learn in 4 years of sitting through classes taught by mediocre professors couldn't be learned in 2 years (or less if you're smart) of actually working in the field, and you could be getting paid for it, too...

Killing people while riding your horse is super satisfying. Gunning other planes down from the gunner seat is also fun. The tanks are kinda dumb. They're only sorta fun to drive and they're totally not fun to get killed by. At least in BF3/4, the tanks are super fun for the person in the...

The idea is that you will actually have to do stuff in spaceports, and there will be stuff there to do, NPCs and players to interact with. Moving boxes sounds pretty dull if you've got any more than a single box to move by yourself. Supposedly there will be robots and NPCs to unload your shit...

It's much harder to get overclocked timings to work on 4 sticks than 2. Other than that, it doesn't matter too much. 2 sticks do cool a lot easier, though, but ram cooling hasn't been a thing since DRAM voltage went down to 1.5v.
