    The Expanse

I think the layout of the ship in the TV series is pretty sloppy overall, and they might reorient it in the future to describe how unlike an airplane, all ships are basically laid out like buildings where the direction of thrust is always up. I don't remember them describing that or really...

Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord teases its gorgeous Calradian Empire in new screens | PC Gamer unrelated: I started playing Perisno: https://forums.taleworlds.com/index.php/board,341.0.html recently and am really liking it even if it's basically the same as all the other good mods.

I'll be super pumped when they launch it, but right now they've just created a 3d rendering of what SpaceX is doing, lol.

No. If we wanted to go to the moon we could. Landing our rover on mars is more difficult than landing a person on the moon anyway.

Re: reproducibility in the autonomous vehicle research field, studies are frequently performed that examine a handful of the top and recently published approaches to solve a given problem, ex: a specific way of planning in a certain problem set. Generally all the approaches are made to work...

Science!! Fucking magnets, how do they work?

Trying to guess how AI will react or not react to humans is pretty much impossible. We can create theories and very possible scenarios, but ruling out given scenarios or saying that a given prediction is definite or even likely is foolish. While we're being foolish, I say that all AI...

    Virtual Reality

If I bought a VR system I'd get the VIVE, even with the Rift price drop. Oculus tried to build a walled garden and sectioned themselves off too much. Note that I'm waiting until 4k (or close) VR displays before jumping in again.

@The Edge, should @Titan_Atlas's totally useless derail on post modernism and subjectivity be censored from this thread?

Science!! Fucking magnets, how do they work?

I went to Houston a couple weeks ago! I also remember a quote from Neil Degrasse Tyson that in response to someone asking if the moon landing was faked was, "There's really only one place you can go with 500k gallons of rocket fuel" or something.

    The Expanse

One thing I didn't fully get: Did Naomi send the proto sample to Fred Johnson against Holden's wishes and without him knowing? Because that's how it looked. At first I thought they were going to send it into the sun and Johnson would capture it due to his knowledge of capturing the earth...

    The Expanse

Everything about this is wrong. Imagine a kid sitting in a swing. When stationary the only force acting on them is gravity. Now imagine gently pushing them on their back. They now have another force acting on them, your hand. They feel the force on their back, and begin to accelerate in the...

Science!! Fucking magnets, how do they work?

Just a small nitpicky point, us not going to the moon since the apollo missions isn't really science taking a leap backward. The only thing stopping us from making a rocket with 500k gallons of rocket fuel is the desire, not the science. I think science only takes a step back when a mistake is...

But to answer the following question of, "Ok well what popular science publication is good?" is that there isn't, and it's not journalists fault. Everything that could possibly come out of pop science publications is overstated several times to the point where if you follow scientific trends at...

Star Citizen Online - The search for more money

Christmas 2020 release IMO. Funding will dry up in late 2018, they'll run out of resources in early 2019, EA will buy Roberts out for a few million and they will cut just about every feature from the game to get it to a publishable state. In the end we'll get a hangar, arena commander, the...

    The Astronomy Thread

To me the ISS (or any other low-G station) and a lunar base serve two very different purposes, so I don't know why the lunar base would replace the ISS. It takes a lot of energy to move cargo to and from a lunar base, so unless that lunar base is operating as a producer of goods (Ex: Helium 3)...

They've announced some idea of the the savings, I remember it cutting the cost of launching stuff in half if everything works right. Doctor Strange (2016)

Mass Effect: Andromeda - Autism reaches outer space

I'd actually be okay if FemRyder had a minor case of cerebral palsy or similar condition, and selecting hard mode merely enabled you to play her and stumble around the game. That plus Ryder incest would be the most progressive thing a game company has ever done.
