No, he means ban the 19 accounts of the guys who run the mythic Uldir raid for you. Getting a large enough raid geared for that raid takes a relatively long time, during which you earn no revenue at all. That kills the professional outfits, and puts a chilling effect on the small-scale raiding...

    Pan'Theon: Rise' of th'e Fal'Len - #1 Thread in MMO

Regarding VR, we still have to solve the problem of movement. Anything where you have to move around (while you're not moving in reality) gives motion sickness to the vast majority of people. The illusion of standing still is the only real antidote so far, which makes racing games, space sims...

The Sad, sad, state of MMORPG in this brave new era...

Yep. The point is, you want stuff that's fixed and "mappable", but enough stuff that you can move to a different part whenever you're ready for a change. The point where I would disagree is the need to have world "grow" on a regular basis. If you have procedural generation, you already have the...

Then what? You're back to a World of Warcraft single player game, but bigger. Besides, you do need an even more massive innovation in procedural generation if you want quests that reach even to the worst quality of WoW quests. You'd need CCN writing your quest text and dialog, and let me tell...

That's... dangerous. The point about quests is that, basically, they DO transform any multiplayer RPG into a solo game. Think about it. I have this quest, which requires me to kill 12 Winter Wolves. Ok, so I'm heading to the map with Winter Wolves. I kill 12 Winter Wolves. And then I leave...

It's a bit better. It's still not procedural; they handcraft their parcels, place everything by hand, and then let random numbers pick which one appear. I think the very first thing that tells you this does not scale is the guy stating at the beginning "I spent 11 months making that one". Oh...

I was going to say "nothing I describe is remotely extraordinary", but most of everything done these days isn't extraordinary. At best, you take known ideas, and make them work better than anyone previous. Which is why Blizzard became #1 in the western MMO scene. The key point that makes or...

You still can do that. Procedurally generated does not mean random. You have a procedurally generated dungeon, which means all the mobs in it have been pre-generated, they always respawn the same, and the game can make appropriate loot. Like, we're generating the nameds of a frog themed...

Except that Crowfall isn't doing procedural generation. They're making a stock of pre-made chunks, and assembling them by hand whenever they want a new world. You still need a world designer to come and create the world every time they'll start one.

Did you read that little word "procedural"? You can't scale WoW. It took devs 14 years to produce the content currently in WoW, and you can't do it faster while using the same method Blizzard uses to make WoW. If you are making a procedural generation system, then you start with a test world...

You can blame the timer. Which is why I've never done a M+ since they've been introduced. Having to fight the dungeon AND time means you need to take shortcuts everywhere, and "pausing DPS" (because something is CCed) means you're not fighting time. So people don't, because the game tells them...

Which is why I was talking about a world 80 times the size of WoW. Because at that point, you don't need a lot of servers. One is probably enough. I did the math a year or so ago; a game with 80 times the size of current day WoW can have a 300-400k player base which translates into 100K...

The big problems with this are also well known: 1) Story and everything else is fully and completely spoilered three months before you even encounter it 2) The main challenge is watching the video showcasing the fight, and doing it correctly enough when it's your turn 3) and lastly, all that...

Islands are ok, I think. The only bad part is that the grind to get everything from it is horribly long. I do 10-12 a week, and got like 3 pets (and a dup) and 5-6 xmog items that aren't even in the same set. (almost everyone by now knows that you skip everything and rush every rare you can...

Massive procedural generation. Instead of making a 2 square mile terrain replicated on demand, make a single server 80 times the current size of WoW. With 6000 dungeons. Maybe the dungeon you're visiting today is spoiled, but it's probably better to find someone who has been in it and can guide...

Do they? I'd argue that, with less massive worlds, you get more and more instancing/phasing/mega-servering that basically destroys community, since every player is irrelevant to your playing experience except the ones that the game randomly associated with you when you clicked on "join queue"...

To bring back the original post, A New World is - at last - a first western MMO that is NOT a crowdfunded shit. Unfortunately, both ANW and Ashes seem to be very PvP-oriented. While this is good for some, it's now an instant "shelve it to uninteresting game" for me.
