    Twin Peaks

Yeah, anyone make any sense of this? My understanding is that this was a one-and-done season in order to 'wrap things up'.

Or, maybe he had to go back...

The Fermi Paradox -- Where is everybody?

Interdasting. Distant galaxy sends out 15 high-energy radio bursts
  4. ShakyJake

    Preacher

What's with the sudden proliferation of F-bombs on broadcast television?

The Fermi Paradox -- Where is everybody?

I think the general thought is that if a civilization achieves interstellar travel then it's game on. They would be able to colonize the entire galaxy within a couple million years traveling at sub-light speeds. And there has been ample enough time for this to have occurred.

The Fermi Paradox -- Where is everybody?

That's what I personally believe. Life is everywhere, we just don't have advanced enough tech to detect them yet. Alternatively, if we are alone then we're living in a simulation and reality isn't what we observe.

The Fermi Paradox -- Where is everybody?

That's the point - we, as humans, would never seen this happen. Not saying trees specifically, of course, but any low energy species would be moving on time scales far longer than we would have the perception to observe.

The Fermi Paradox -- Where is everybody?

Not sure what you mean by 'outperform'. They would be on their own evolutionary path. Trees aren't trying to outperform us, for example.

The Fermi Paradox -- Where is everybody?

I don't know, what if you have a very low-energy species? Their perception of time could be sufficiently slow that traversing the stars would seem, perhaps, like hours or days whereas for us it's millennia. Obviously this form of life would be impossible for us to communicate with. But I...

Any good videos out there that show this effect?

    The Astronomy Thread

What's interesting is that even the outer most planets must still get plenty of sunlight. I think I read somewhere that even on Pluto one could still easily read a book.

86% here and clouds rolled in. So it just looked like it was going to storm. Fucking thing sucks.

    Rick and Morty

Exactly. The cold open made me think, "this might be a stinker episode". NOPE. Brilliant.

    Stranger Things

I really enjoyed season 1, but I kind of feel the show would've worked best as an anthology series.

    The Expanse

    What game is that from?
  16. ShakyJake

    Blood Drive

Yeah, fucking amazing fun. If you like Ash vs Evil Dead then you'll love love this. What is going on with Syfy and all these great shows? Strange things are afoot at the CircleK.

Man, what in the fuck did I just watch?

So possibly massive rotating disc objects?
  19. ShakyJake

    The Mist

Haven't watched it, but absolutely loved the movie.
  20. ShakyJake

    GLOW

I sure do! I honestly don't remember any specific wrestlers out of the bunch, but I do remember it.

Right, even like nebulae for instance. You watch Star Trek and they depict them like these opaque clouds. If you were actually inside a nebula it would still appear like empty space. They are very diffuse.

    The Astronomy Thread

Yeah, but it doesn't look like that to the naked eye (or through a telescope). You have to take long exposures for it to appear anything close to your picture.

    The Astronomy Thread

I took an astronomy class at college and the professor had his own observatory at his house. Had us all come out and take a look. I think he said it cost him about 20 grand or so. We looked at Andromeda and all you could see is a fuzzy mass. Might as well just look at pictures from Hubble...

    Hugh Jackman: Logan

Saw it last night. Enjoyable, but a depressing end for the characters.

    12 Monkeys

When they first revealed the adult witness, did anyone else think it was Kirk Acevedo? Those two actors look awfully similar:

    24: Legacy

I did not like the protagonist at all.

    Wonder Woman (2017)

Saw WW this evening. Like others, wasn't great but wasn't bad either. I doubt I'll ever watch it again, but if I do I'd fast-forward to the couple action scenes. Also, kept thinking "Hey that's VM Varga from Fargo!".

    Fargo

Also Gloria isn't "seen" by technology it appears. Even Google searches yield no results.

    Into the Badlands

I wanted to see more black-eyed bad assery, but still thoroughly enjoyed the season. Absolutely love Bajie. Hope he remains a permanent member of the cast.

    The Flash

    Welp, show's over.
