I don't feel like creating threads for them so: Hostiles: (previously mentioned in this thread) post-cavalry movie with Bale, as a veterant who fought indians all of his adult life, tasked to escort a dying captive indian chief and old nemesis to his home land. If you take each scene...

    Red Sparrow (2018)

@spronk To be fair, with a shorter run time, the movie would feel rushed if you want to structure the story the way it is. Basically it goes character exposition -> meddling in the spy game -> formation as a sparrow . This takes about an hour and then you still have to make your spy vs spy...

Retro Game of the Month April 2018: Demon's Crest (SNES)

Something very noteworthy in this game is the super badass music done with an instrumentation of pipe organ, harpsichord and violins (well... at least their MIDI version in the SNES chipset!). That being said, since I played it very recently I'll pass this time again. I wish everyone good luck...

    The Death of Stalin (2017)

This film is basically horror-comedy with a political/historical twist. There is a good dose of poetic licence (compression of the timeline, alteration of some events) but that's to be expected. Oddly, the main flaw of this movie is an abundance of riches. It's so packed full of themes, great...

You have been traumatized by the 3D mazes as a kid, but they are ridiculously tiny and only have one entrance and one exit. Other than that they are totally empty (with the exception of the hidden hp thing in the first maze that I found by accident the first time around). If it can make you feel...

Well... since the NES was hot, I also played through Fester's Quest. This top down exploration shooter game uses the Addams Family licence. I am not familiar with the Addams Family, but I don't think this story of alien invasion is exactly canon... anyway, you control the slow and 4 direction...

    Retro Gaming Thread

Buddy gaming Thursday remained retro the last two weeks. As my friend is a big fan of Metal Gear Solid, we played a game neither of us played before: Metal Gear on NES! Note that I did not say the original Metal Gear, because the NES version is a rushed port of the original that was released on...

I am interested in playing Betrayal at Krondor, but for the sake of getting the list going I'll add the first retro game that is on a pile by me: Minna no Golf aka Everybody's Golf aka Hot Shots Golf on PS1!

    Fortnite - Epic Games - Team Survival/Strategy/Crafting/Combat

They are doing a pretty good job at keeping the game fresh with new cosmetic stuff, changes in the map, temporary game modes, thematic changes, new items/weapons, etc. It's a bit hit & miss but they don't need to only have hits to keep people interested.

    Tomb Raider (2018)

It's not horrible, but it's nothing special really. Somewhat by-the-numbers plot (apparently mostly a recombination of elements seen in the recent two games with a good serving of daddy issues on top) that keep things moving, not so hot dialogues, the action and puzzle solving set pieces are not...

Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri (2017)

I have no problem with the unlikely or the coincidence, it's a narrative device that has its merits at times, but characters acting without any kind of discernible motivation? I have a problem with that.

    Celeste

I platinum'ed this game on PS4 and the more I played it the least I felt like I could recommend it. The problem is that the harder it gets the more obvious and infuriating the control and level design flaws become. The core game is mostly fine, but that's like 20% of the game and there is even...

Grottino 2017: The only awards that matter (to me)

Nah... It is a key aspect of this group that we have different tastes. We are all reasonably curious and ok to see movies that potentially fall outside our core interests and, more importantly, we are always willing to debate with each others, hear what someone else saw in a movie we did not...

I read a pretty cool and long article by a former promoter about that Wilder vs Ortiz fight with a pretty good explanation, from a promoter standpoint, as to why the fight happened, why Ortiz would lose, and why Joshua would win against Wilder down the road. Bridge Constructor Portal - New Game from Valve

I have not played it, but I saw it played and it felt a little tedious (as in solving the puzzle takes 3 sec and then you have to build the solution for 5 mins to get to the next puzzle... that you also solve in 3 sec, etc).

Retro Game of the Month March 2018: Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (Playstation)

Never mind the fact I don't like the game (which did not prevent me from playing through the whole thing back in the days), I don't seem to have it anymore! Grottino 2017: The only awards that matter (to me)

@Khane Knowing the guy who put it on his list (at N°5!), I guess he enjoyed it a lot because it is a peculiar object, where you know every single element has been carefully weighted, taking into account representation, the canon, the nostalgia of some of the fans, the lack of nostalgia of some...
