    Krypton

I honestly don't think Syfy can make it in this current environment. Cable TV is doomed and their genre focus makes it even worse. They're probably better off dropping their cable channel and, instead, license their original content to Netflix or something.

Right tool for the job and all of that, but I can't imagine why anyone would rather use ADO.NET or write SQL strings over EntityFramework. I guess I can see it if you're primarily a database guy and want absolute control. But, my God, that shit is awful. AWFUL.

So if anyone gives a shit, this is what I decided to do: Our application's installer is now passphrase protected. This passphrase was used to encrypt the symmetric key used in our application. The encrypted symmetric key is what exists in the installer program. During installation the...

Has anyone tried this? Something I am sorely lacking is experience with other code bases. I've worked on two applications for my current job (one is an old ass ASP.NET WebForms application, the other is a newer Angular 2+ / WebAPI contraption), but that's all my experience involves. I'd love...

The Paranormal, UFO's, and Mysteries of the Unknown

He was told that the aliens were from Zeti Reticuli, but as was mentioned in the vid I linked, that could've been misinformation given to him. All he knows is what he saw and what he was told. For all we know, these craft at Area 51 could actually be from Wakanda.

It's not that simple. Watch the video I linked. The dude covers this.

The Paranormal, UFO's, and Mysteries of the Unknown

Sorry if this is a sort-of a repost, but I found this video pretty fascinating. I (and most here too probably) have known of Bob Lazar for many years now, but I always assumed the dude was lying... ...but after watching this analysis of the Joe Rogan interview? Not so sure now.

Typically these are medical devices within the customer's network. In one particular instance we need to send user passwords to the device encrypted with the key that is supplied to us by the vendor.

Need some ideas from a security guru on something: Our software is installed on a customer's server by delivering installation files to it and running the setup executable -- you know, like any old fashion Windows application. This also applies to updates to the application as well -- install...

    Gravy's Cooking Thread

Who here has an Instant Pot? I've been using a slow cooker previously but the long ass cooking times is really inconvenient. Also, I hate cooking with the passion of a thousand suns so I was looking for something that is quick and simple. So, I tried cooking a frozen chicken breast and I...

    Krypton

Totally agree. One of the few series I look forward to and watch every week. I really like the actor they chose for Zod. And love LOVE Braniac.

    The Walking Dead

Honestly, I've quite enjoyed the direction Fear has taken. They have a good cast now with Lennie James and Dillahunt joining. Ratings decline is probably due to fatigue with the main series, rather than specifically Fear. Just my guess.

    The Sandman

If Netflix wants a GoT, you know what they should do? A live action adaptation of the Dragonlance Chronicles. Huge fan base plus tons of material to draw off of for years to come.

We have a Russian fellow as one of our devs, been with the company for probably 15 years. Same title as the day he started. I think he just wants to code and be left alone.

Yeah, I think game development isn't all it's cracked up to be. In fact, sounds like a really punishing career -- tight deadlines and potentially super long hours. You better freakin' love coding if you want to go down that road.

For my college courses we worked backwards from high level to low. Java -> C++ -> assembly. I felt like that was a good path they took us on rather than doing it in reverse.

If he hasn't done any programming before I would suggest NOT to do C++. That shit is awful and will likely discourage someone new to programming from pursuing coding as a profession or hobby. However, although not free, Udemy has great courses and can be typically purchased for ~$10 when on...

I've seen a few YouTube developer commentators admit to dumping their Mac and moving back to a PC. The only way I would even consider a Mac is if I could build my own. That's not really an option so screw 'em.

    One-Punch Man

Started watching this after seeing this thread. Really loving it. The scene where he stops short of punching Genos, and the accompanying gale force winds was fucking great. If anyone likes ridiculously over-powered heroes, then you'll enjoy this.

I didn't get a chance to watch the pilot until last night. I really enjoyed it. This is how a pilot should be: pulls you in immediately and has you begging for more by the end.
