    Working for Amazon Web Services

We had a software engineer return to us after being employed by Amazon for little over a year. He didn't go into any real details, but he seemed to imply they aren't very organized. And we are tiny little potatoes compared to Amazon, so I was surprised he'd give up a career with them.

Thanks for the information. Yeah, I'm currently reading through OReilly'sCSS3 The Missing Manual. I also have their Javascript JQuery book as well, which is next in line.

    Looking to learn HTML formatting

Up until this point I mostly wrote various Windows based tools for our support guys. They were written in C# and WPF. WPF, if you don't know, is Microsoft's system for rendering the Windows GUI (as opposed to the old WinForms crap). It's based on XAML which is HTML-like markup. Anyway, I use...

    Looking to learn HTML formatting

By the way, Microsoft Expression Web is now a free product. It's comparable to Adobe's Dreamweaver. It has some nice formatting abilities, as well being a pretty nice HTML and CSS editor. Unfortunately development on the product has ceased so it's Intellisense feature doesn't recognize some...

    American Horror Story: Coven

This season has been somewhat of a disappointment. Honestly, Nan and Misty are the only two characters I even remotely care about. So much for Nan -- poor girl needs a break. She's been killed off in both seasons.

    Saving Mr. Banks

This movie left the impression that Travers was happy with the movie. But from reading the Wiki page on the subject, it appears she was still quite pissed. There were no further Mary Poppins movies, for example. Plus, I found it odd that the movie, at the end, portrayed a heart-felt...

    Recommend a dating site

I signed up for Zoosk a while back and constantly get spammed every day with a new "match" (despite having entered zero information about myself). What's hilarious is that every match is with an extremely attractive woman. Makes me wonder if it's actually an escort site. Speaking of which...

Streaming video from PC to TV

A guy at work claims to stream 1080p video. I think he has a Wireless-N set up. I use a WDTV-Live to stream from my PC. It just uses a simple network share (can also connect to the PS3 media server software). I wouldn't really recommend the WDTV as I think it's a piece of junk and there...

Need advice for creating Usenet indexer site

Yeah, I'm just going to pull NZB info off of Nzbs.org and process the .nfo files. I managed to scrape data off of a web site's actor page using HtmlAgilityPack for C#. My original idea was to use a search service (i.e. Google) for actor data and try to parse it, but that would be too...

ActiveState's Komodo IDE has options to reformat code. I imagine one could paste in a blob of text and it would accurately reformat the HTML and any Javascript to expected standards. Komodo IDE: Professional IDE for Python, PHP, Ruby, Perl, HTML, CSS, JavaScript

Need advice for creating Usenet indexer site

After thinking some more, I believe what I truly want to do just simply query sites for the data. Nzbs.org, for example, has an API for getting NZB data so I'd actually do that rather than indexing Usenet newsgroups myself (not to mention the storage requirements for such thing is massive from...

Need advice for creating Usenet indexer site

I want to create a website that's essentially a usenet indexer for movies. As an example, most movie and TV-show sites (like Nzbs.org and others) have Title, Actor, Director, Genre, etc. etc. filters. Plus, nice little coverart and scene clips. My question is, which technologies do I need...

    Bioshock Infinite

Just finished Infinite earlier today. I'm a sucker for time-travel/alternate universe stuff, so I genuinely enjoyed the story. Like others have said, though, the gameplay was mediocre at best. I barely used the powers. Pretty much stuck to Possession, Crows, and Bronco-whatever. Since you...

    should we remove nets

How about just a "Like" system like Facebook (can't "Dislike" only "Like")? You can do one Like per person'spost. But the Likes will tally a total under the person's account. Sure, people could Like every single post of an individual to inflate their numbers, but eh, who cares.

    Computer Issues

I just built a computer for a family member. Got Windows 7 loaded, all the drivers, etc. Working great EXCEPT the front USB ports are slow as shit. I'm talking like ~512KB/sec slow. Any clue what could cause this? I can't find any BIOS settings that could possibly limit it. Rear ports are...

I honestly don't give a shit either way. BUT I will say that the whole +/- 'nets thing creates a psychological fear of posting. I've been neg'd on plenty of occasions because someone simply had a differing opinion (wasn't like I posted scat porn or something).

    SteamOS

I guess the question is, can Steam make a case for studios to produce Linux (or, rather, SteamOS) versions of their games? If they can and SteamOS builds up momentum, then I can certainly see it becoming the new standard platform for PC gaming. But, in order to do this, it HAS to offer some...

    What vehicle do you drive?

A 2011+ Mustang V6 with the Performance Pack is very respectable. In a recent comparison it outperformed a Subaru BRZ at the track. I've owned a WRX (not the STI, mind you) and, while I enjoyed the car, the lack of torque killed it for me.

    What vehicle do you drive?

You're comparing a STI, which is nearly 40 grand, to a rental V6? Come on.
