    The Astronomy Thread

The problem with the Fermi Paradox is it is extremely human centric and thus subject to human biases. We make assumptions that we, in our current state of technology, should have observed signs of intelligent life by now and by virtue of not seeing anything, we jump to conclusions like...

Oona Chaplin plays the fire Navi leader? Will be sad when at the end of the movie, they all sit down for dinner and the theme for The Abyss starts to play and Sully stabs her in the stomach and all the fire Navi are killed by the guests

    The Last of Us

I have to imagine they weren’t eating that every day. The comment made during that last dinner was “my favorite meal”, which would suggest they didn’t eat that all the time. Even if you had an entire small town to yourself, stretching that for 20 years with daily consumption wouldn’t be...

Earlier in the episode, they showed Bill making the trap. He basically put some wire netting that wouldn’t support a person’s weight and then covered it with sod/dirt clumps to disguise it

    The Last of Us

Frank probably helped Bill survive longer than he would have on his own. Like Joel pointed out, some of Bill’s defenses weren’t going to last and by facilitating a Joel+Tess trading partnership, they were able to get some things they couldn’t have gotten on their own. Bill may have been shot...

    The Last of Us

Bill was in the game. Frank is talked about by the time Joel and Ellie arrive. Bill is gay in the game as well - they don't blatantly state this, but it is pretty much implied if you pay attention. This stuff wasn't directly in the game - they discuss some stuff, but doesn't go into this...

His goal was always to do an "Archeage, but made my way", so them being similar is what he is going for If his goal was EQ-like combat, then you'd just stand in one place auto attacking and pressing taunt every so often lol

    The Last of Us

Honestly they need to introduce Abby earlier. Make her a C-plot at the Fireflies base. Give the audience glimpses of the base that are intentionally misleading because it is from the POV of a naive kid. Then when you get to the end of TLOU in the show, have a scene where we previously saw...

    The Last of Us

Another reason the 2nd game was hated so much. It's telling that the best parts of the 2nd game were the flashbacks when Joel was trying to be a dad to Ellie and had to deal with the normal shit parents have to deal with.

    World of Warcraft: Current Year

He's right. The photo is a crappy example because it looks like it could be an art class and it actually counters the copy argument being made. If you look closely, the upper left of the canvas is the reference image, but the larger stuff in the middle is what they are actually painting. If...

    The Last of Us

Television wise this always made the most sense. End s1 with the rebar scene, s2 is the rest of the first game. However, introducing Abby earlier on would be their best bet. She doesn’t go all psycho mode until post TLOU1, so it is an easier way to garner audience sympathy for her. Otherwise...

    Dungeons & Dragons (2022)

Yes, GoT/HotD. But then you run the risk of being perceived as “Great Value” GoT. Although another reason: They want to sell D&D stuff. If you make D&D look fun, then you sell more D&D stuff. The market is flush with TRRPG stuff, so it is a good way to differentiate to normies. And for...

    Dungeons & Dragons (2022)

You’re not going to get that movie funded, though. Fantasy IP on this type of scale are expensive and the Rings of Power lukewarm reception has somewhat poisoned the well for now D&D in the current mainstream mindset is going to be associated with stuff like Critical Roll, or Stranger Things...

2023 Academy Awards. No Baldies allowed!

Same reason Avatar was nominated. A number of years back they made the decision to start nominating more "blockbuster" films seen by a wide audience to the best picture category...mostly as a tactic to try to draw viewers to the show, since numbers had been declining for years.

The NASA/DARPA project is the nuclear propulsion thing, isn’t it? Granted we do need faster ways of getting to the other planets and moons in the system, so we really need to start doing things like this vs just relying upon slingshots or launch momentum.

The preview for episode 3 mentions raiders. We also know from the @coming this season” shit they still contend with raiders. The change at the end of episode 2 is fine, because it better highlights the limited reach of FEDRA and let’s them show off the enhanced infected tech of using the...

    Starfield - Fallout fallout that isn't ES6

Fallout 76 has improved a lot since launch. One thing you can give them credit for is sticking with the game vs. just abandoning it. Content does come out fairly slow, but it comes out. Most recent major patch added some mini-traveling Nuka World with a bunch of rides and quests.
