DS9 had the same problem. 1st season was pretty meh and the show didn't really find its stride until the end of the 2nd season/start of the 3rd season, when they introduced the Dominion and leaned heavily into the start of the Dominion War.

My guess is they go to the Good Place and 1) It ends up being a test; or 2) They get bored as fuck after a thousand years or whatever (because there is no conflict and no way to further improve themselves) and decide it would be better to get rebooted like everyone else

Everything seems more impressive than what they did in New Hope from a special effects standpoint lol
