I tried looking for a first post in this thread to tell me when I backed this game but couldn't. One of my first points was comparing SC to Amalur, so if you guys are going to look for someone to take the heat for the lazy comparison it's me. This is in 2013:

I think you're reading into an argument that me or Erronius aren't making. Neither of us are saying that SC will follow the same path as Amalur because of the similarities. Just that the similarities exist. There are massive differences between the two games and franchises that are almost all in...

What other cases in gaming history have there been where a new IP has a massive MMO development underway made by a high profile person making 'the game he always wanted to make', but that MMO was preceded by a more constrained singleplayer game in the same IP? I really can't think of one...

The 12 dollar retail margin seems extreme and the lack of a publisher assumes cig isnt taking a healthy cut to continue development of the game. I also dont know what sales promotion is and how it is different than the sales promotion they have done for their ships. But the big problem i have...

    Virtual Reality

I think this is pretty specious. Facebook's motivations are unclear but it's likely they want to branch out from social media technology and want to keep relevant in the upcoming meta-verse social media. Short term gaps from their 2billion investment not being recouped in the initial VR release...

I think the $350 was an honest figure produced based on the thought of, "If we can rip apart consumer electronics and shove them together to make a best-in-class VR system for $350, surely scaling up to 1million+ units will allow us to do the same with a much improved system." However as we...

I don't think so, the length of hose and thus the stopping force increases linearly with time. However it did not affect the speed at the distance travelled so it's likely the device has some mechanism to go at a constant speed up to a certain stopping force. In other words, it travelled at...

I didn't closely follow either game, so what are the major differences? The only one that I can point out is that Reckoning was set from the start to be a seed-game planned to drum up interest and finances for the larger game, where as S42 was a stretch goal that is now coming out before the...

I think the big reasons you shouldn't worry about whales is: 1. The MMO aspect will probably be semi-limited and optional. 2. I'm betting that pure mudflation will cause the ships bought today by whales to become outdated and easily achievable pretty quickly in Star Citizen. Being able to buy...

Star Citizen Online - The search for more money

Nah, they are extremely comparable. Reckoning was a singleplayer game built to generate revenue and build enough excitement to finish development of a much larger-scale MMO. SC is funded differently but at this point I think it's resting its future on S42 much more than they ever wanted to. If...

I don't even know why they bothered with invisible walls in FONV. I removed them in my playthroughs and explored outside the map a bit and nothing really bad happened. It wasn't like there were a bunch of quest-ending areas you could get to.

IT/Software career thread: Invert binary trees for dollars.

I'd ask a senior coworker or your boss what the general guidelines are for expensing. Often the general attitude people take does not match the employee handbook, but you should be aware of the big pitfalls. Sometimes an employee will cause a bunch of drama with a certain thing and ruin it for...

I actually liked the different ammo types because that was sort of the answer to the DT problem. You had to keep a collection of AP rounds for a few guns in order to kill the high DT opponents.

I remember the giant radscorps being the worst because you encountered them early on. That was a huge part of why hard in fallout was bad. In hard mode they lazily just made mobs into bullet sponges, which was somewhat necessary because it was so easy to simply kite or otherwise attack mobs in a...

I also enjoyed the DC area a LOT more than New Vegas. The DC area captured the chaotic, sprawling and ravaged area of a metropolis more than people give it credit for. It's not the well laid out set of quest hubs with coherent direction and polish. It's a big fucking concrete mess of shit.

It's not even that, it's that making a game difficult in a fun way is very hard and requires a combat system that supports it. Dark Souls is oft lauded but few people recognize that making a game that difficult while still allowing for a lot of player freedom and is still fun is super...

The statement I made was a bit sloppy, let me throw it back in the forge and try again. Creating something cool in a game can be fun and engaging if one of the following is true: 1. The combat is both difficult enough such that creativity is needed to win, and fun when it is difficult. 2...

Right, but unless they spend a lot of effort that is uncharacteristic for Bethesda, a non-terrible base + a non-terrible village will win the encounters. I don't really understand gravity waves, but if the effects of gravity don't emanate from some body of mass at the speed of light in a way that can be conceived of as waves, how else would they travel? Do people think they travel instantaneously through some interdimensional effect? Or is...

No. If there's no expectation of wealth generation it's not an investment in my opinion. The dudes buying underpriced ships and hoping to sell them after supplies run out, that's an investment. But me paying into SC super early just to help a space sim get funded? That's me giving a down...

Having a massive white walker vs dragon battle as a cinematic 2 hour affair shown in theatres would be cool, but to be a proper movie you'd need to have a coherent setup which would be annoying. 72" is not attainable by humans, ~45" is pretty much the softcap. But your point is very true. However there are some strong genetics at play with someone's max vert. I picked it because unlike say, the 40yd dash or benchpress someone in 'good' shape will not improve their vertical leap...
