Why in the world did he think SoE would ever say yes? Why did he do years of work before asking? Why did the “no” stop him when hundreds of other emu servers have operated with relative impunity for a literal decade or more?

Because he advertised it as EQclassic for like 8 years and attracted people who wanted EQClassic. Then when he suddenly said he was going to do custom content it did fail. If he said he was going to do custom EQ content in the beginning he'd have attracted like whatever Shards of Dalaya got, but...

What happened to him? It just seems totally insane that he did thousands of hours of work on EQClassic expecting SoE to tell him he had permission to emulate. The other story I heard was he wanted to do custom content, another idea which would obviously fail.

Four months of PoP really sucks but our guild grew explosively during PoP. We went from two splitting to three full splits at some points. PoP randomization was fun but it was also a bit nonsensical. I felt like it was the only time so far where the final raid zone was a bad time investment. Not complaining about it though, because Mischief baby.

It’s like you don’t understand what collecting is.

This ignores the fact that many people enjoy magic as a collectible. Not only does it make collecting the cards more of a burden, it also makes any given version of the card feel worth less while probably costing more to have the “collection”.

Post MoTM era you can just play with fewer people. NToV is probably the worst raid zone on TLPs now thanks to MoTM. It’s an absolute slog.
