Using and maintaining an existing car will almost always be cheaper than buying a new car and assuming higher payments AND/OR insurance rates. You've got a Toyota, it'll last longer than we will.

Leases have gap insurance included at no cost. It's standard industry procedure. Generally speaking, a total loss from a lease costs someone less than a total loss from a finance. Sucks either way, but at least you had use of the vehicle at a lower cost during the lease.

No, cars can be an investment, its just that most are not. There is mega money in classic European racing cars and sports cars. The point of entry is very high, but the return can be as well. Making a blanket statement about none of them being investments is ridiculous.

Correct, the housing market is in a big bubble, again. When the market pulls back, homes, cars, boats, watches, stocks, etc. will correct and people who over-extended (because they used money they don't really have) will be fucked. No one ever learns. Ever.
