Nahh not enough BTU in generic home gas ranges. Electric is definitely better. Even better yet is the new induction electric but that needs special pans and pots. Gas is cheaper though and gas has more potential if you get some industrial range rather than the home type.

It does not have to be PvP to be hardcore server. All they need to do is re-institute the old school death penalty, 100% more downtime and this would be considered 200% more hardcore than todays EQ offerings.
