    J49: An Erotic Life

I can't imagine the shame I would feel explaining this situation to my two boys. This goes so far beyond the "your dad's not perfect" conversation. Hell, I can't imagine how ashamed I would be to find out my dad had done 10% of what I've read here. This shits entertaining but real talk: it's...

Sounds reasonable. Don't most states offer some form of insurance to low income households? Here in Arizona you have to meet some pretty low thresholds to qualify but I would think a student would qualify and based on the story posted above (the lady that qualified and then didn't qualify) that...

I don't mean to sound dense but I don't know the solution. I still think that legal reform needs to happen so that clinicians can worry more about patient care and less about covering their asses. That was addressed earlier in this thread by Vaclav and there seems to be some evidence that that...

I'm sorry about your surgery, glad you got it taken care of. Also sorry if your credit gets screwed, that sucks. I don't see how me criticizing the government equates to: "I don't think there's a problem with health insurance." I do think there was and is a problem, I just don't believe that...

The better question would be why should the government be responsible for the health care of its population? I'm all for the greater good and yadda yadda but I just don't know how that became the government's role? You guys can place all the trust in government you want, it's just not my thing.

Like I said, not 100% on this, but the article says that those figures were a goof and the actual tax credit was $110 and that the original subsidy she thought she would be getting ($452/month) was a mistake. Either I missed something or I'm just misunderstanding it. Sorry.

So why is my comment stupid? Please tell me what gives you such confidence in our government? The very legislators that currently have a 9% approval rating would be writing the laws that would enact a single payer plan and it would be botched just as much as the ACA has. So instead of calling my...

I'm not 100% on this so please don't misunderstand as I'm not making this as a statement of fact, but the way I understand it is that the websites are giving back erroneous information regarding your subsidies/cost which is exactly what happened to this woman. I agree with you, I think no matter what Obama does regarding healthcare it will be wrong. But that's because I don't really feel that government has any place in healthcare in the first place. Ischemic heart disease is the #1 killer in the United States. Heart disease is pretty expensive and it affects almost 18 million people, most of them men. Breast cancer by comparison is almostrareby comparison as women are 10 times more likely to die of heart disease than breast cancer. I...

Patients demanding unnecessary diagnostics and providers ordering them for fear of lawsuit has definitely driven costs up. Not saying it's the only thing but I assure you that the $10-50K/yr malpractice premiums that providers pay has a definite impact on the cost of medicine.

That's pretty interesting and I didn't know that. I know for a fact though that many diagnostics are ordered by providers simply as a CYA. Would probably take many years to change that paradigm, so I still think long term reform would help but results are what they are.
