I only get to rank 8 or 5 each season when I try. Generally I just play aggro until at least rank 10. Then I move to control decks.

Diablos Sledge II and the newer Monster ones are what I run with. I have the Zorah hammer but like I learned. Raw > All else with hammer and Diablos Sledge with no Element Gem provides the highest dmg.
