Honestly the placement matches seemed to always be horrible. Once I got calibrated, they improved greatly. Just solo queuing, I've been able to get up to 3100 so far.

I can say that trying to salvage packs in the middle of massive PVP in Archeage was pretty exciting. Freedich runs to handin packs while trying to defend vs. pirates made for some good entertainment.

Torb on offense is actually pretty damn good depending on the map and enemy team comp. The key is you dont upgrade the turret to 2 unless you're in some downtime. You're too vulnerable otherwise and most people don't realize his rclick will decimate a hero at close range.

You don't have to attack your own settlements. The game will create non-player owned settlements to raid.

Tanks worked fine in BF1942. You more often just had issues with environment navigation due to hidden "lol ur stuck" parts than actually driving the thing.
