    Drain the fucking swamp

I like the idea of the Senate and Congress being 1000 people each. Each state gets 20 senators, and an amount of housemembers based on their population. Create a big stadium with stadium style uncomfortable chairs for them to meet in. Reduce the amount of time they can talk to be minimal. Have...

    Drain the fucking swamp

I don't see how this can be done with the current SCOTUS upholding the first amendment. I mean, if this is a fantasy land we can rewrite the meaning behind the constitution, make big money's influence in federal elections minimal and have state sponsored campaigns. Make it such that the only...

    Drain the fucking swamp

Thinking about term limits, I wonder if this would have the downside of making politicians less powerful and less able to stand against big money. If you're a 20 year incumbent housemember of a fairly happy district, your chances for re-election are so high and your campaign costs are so low...

    Poll Betting on the Election

Yes. Even if Trump continues to inch toward favorability (which would be pretty incredible), it's still much more firmed up than it was a few months ago.

    Poll Betting on the Election

All the good betting is generally outside the general election result, or betting on the swings. The margins are larger and uncertainty much higher when betting on who wins Iowa than who wins the POTUS. And while the race is pretty much firmed up, a few months ago betting on who will increase...

The takeaway for me is that even with an incredibly impressive propellentless drive we're still very, very far from the stars. We'll need a few massive technological breakthroughs beyond that to reach the stars without a generation ship.

    The Astronomy Thread

Not sure why you'd say that. It's reasonable to assume that a future propellentless drive using physics we don't think is possible would have limits in the form of heat generation or power draw. I'd say that being able to accelerate a ship at 0.1m/s would be pretty impressive for one of these...

Agree completely. And when asteroid mining makes the path to a generation ship possible by bringing massive amounts of usable resources to LEO, I'll be super happy that we're building a generational ship. Even if there's a 90% chance that we'll beat it to its destination, it's worth doing on the...

PokemonGo showed the world that a pretty simple app that is slightly connected to the world and barely has augmented reality built into it can be massive in new and exciting ways, though the pokemon IP is a juggernaut and helped with that as well. VR / AR will be huge, 100 billion dollar...

Yeah I wouldn't be surprised either way. I haven't heard anything concrete about XP rates in EoK. I know the task rewards can give 30AAs, but I don't know if there's some AA pinata. I think where it concerns leveling most people are more focused on the tradeskill leveling they're obliged to do...

The 10k AAs aren't as bad of a grind as you think. Not because 10k AAs is a small amount, but because most of them aren't these "must have" AAs that will make a huge difference. If you can quickly grind out the first thousand AA's, you've probably gotten the really good stuff. The next couple...

Sounds delicious. I'll just buy a "Goo-Grow" bowl, plug it into the wall and then use a slotted spoon to scoop and swallow the semi-sweet mass every few hours.

Yeah im too ignorant to understand why you cant replace light with electricity in the co2 + h2o = sugar +oxygen equation, amd thats ok. Sure, assuming the process takes place on farmland with adequate sun. What if it takes place in Manhattan, Alaska, Antarctica, an underwater oil drilling platform or the ISS?

Science!! Fucking magnets, how do they work?

Cool. I don't know biology or botany but I'm super excited for crazy GMO stuff. One scifi thing I hardly ever see is plants who have an electric input as a power source in addition to sunlight. I think that'd be baller.

The tech for this is pretty far off. And the answer to the social issue will probably end up being cryogenic sleep, if it ever works. it's a big enabler not just because it avoids the social problems, but greatly diminishes the need for food, water, air, power, recycling etc for space travelers...

Poll Do you like the stories and dialogue in games?

Some games yes, some games no. I find that I have to 'really' care about a game's setting to care about the text. I also find it has to be heavily integrated into the gameplay for me to care. I also find that the more forced I am to hear background/story the less I care about it. In MMOs...

List is correct here, and there's good reasons for most of it. Warriors, like others, were forced to group. I agree, but they're not tryign to lean heavily on procedural generation right? They're not making a galaxy sized world. BTW: I'll reiterate what I said a lot on the No Man's Sky thread: procedural generation will only take you so far and create an interesting base. You absolutely need hand...

One of the games that ships with the rift, Lucky's Tale, has the kind of overhead isometric view that Populous has. I think we'll see some form of God games with VR, but a key thing here is that 3d objects far away look flat (even in the real world). You can compensate this by having a wider...

Not sure what you're asking here, but I'm saying that if you maxed out your AAs and had some 15k AAs, once EoK releases and you max out your AAs you'll have 25k.
