Heh interesting. Presumably they will be doing a soft reboot of some type.

The Fermi Paradox -- Where is everybody?

I'm just pointing out the argument that "aliens could colonize most of the galaxy with 1960s era rocket technology!" is vapid. Can it be done? sure. Is it practical and realistic? not really. And yes, I understand development of technology. Our development in the past 100 years has been on...

Subway has a market saturation and quality problem, though. Places like Panera Bread did a lot of damage to Subway, because now you had a wide spread sandwich/salad place that served actual edible food.

The Fermi Paradox -- Where is everybody?

There's a big difference between "tech existing" and "tech existing at a certain level". Trying to say we have the tech today for an interstellar mission is like saying we can use ENIAC from the 40s to render a Pixar movie. I mean, I guess given enough time you could maybe get there, but the...

The flashy trains are always uncrowded, though, which is why I liked them. The rail pass you get put in first class on the bullet trains and there would always end up being like half a dozen or less people in our car, so you could stretch out. That saved our butt one time...there was some...

Where are you getting humanoid alien from, though? The wormhole aliens weren't described as humanoid and the builders were more insectoid it was suggested.

They came out post-Mass Effect, but "wormholes by ancient aliens" was done by Stargate before Mass Effect so they really can't claim that.

Good point, I forgot about BLU. I didn't even get all the spells because the party finders all dried up.

The Fermi Paradox -- Where is everybody?

Right, but there is a difference between individual and collective survival. We can presume that for a civilization to arise, the species in question would have to be social to a degree. Civilization by its definition is essentially a collective work. Once you get to that point, there are...

The Fermi Paradox -- Where is everybody?

Right. Basically the only practical reason for sub-light travel on massive time frames is it is perceived as a way to ensure the continuation of the species. There would be virtually no other benefit, unless your civilization is okay with your FedEx delivery of Unobtanium only arriving once...

    The Expanse

Yes, it is based off book 4, although they will be using some of the book 5 subplots to help flesh out the Sol system events (like Bobby back on Mars). Book 4 is when they visited the alien planet, yes. It's the first human colony after the ring network opened, although it wasn't officially...

You might want to consider day trips as well if you get the rail pass. Nara is close to Kyoto (that's the place with the tame deer and a godzilla sized Buddha statue). Also by bullet train, Hiroshima is like 2 hours from Kyoto. Worth a day trip to see the Hiroshima memorial and museum.

1984 or Neuromancer? Where are we headed?

Country also changes it a lot. China and Europe seem to be more in the 1984 direction, whereas the US leans more heavily in the Neuromancer direction.

Once you get used to the systems in the game, it is pretty straight forward. You can totally play as a casual player and get lots of enjoyment from the game. The community in this game is also pretty friendly to new people and are willing to help out if you have questions.

If they were doing it. Which leads to a couple conclusions: 1) No one out there is capable of doing it 2) We're assuming these are "inevitable" apex developments, but the reality is they aren't Honestly it could be a little of 1 and 2, but trying to assume stuff like Dyson Spheres and Shkadov...

The Fermi Paradox -- Where is everybody?

I agree that it would be hard. There was an interesting TV special a while back that put forth a scenario where a pulsar is observed heading towards Earth and we have 80 years before it gets here. The governments of the world agree to basically pool all their resources to make a gigantic...

The Fermi Paradox -- Where is everybody?

Although when you look at those numbers, that is a pretty insane period of time for a species. Homo Sapiens have only been around for a hundred thousand years, give or take. Advanced hominids for a few million years. There are species on Earth that have been around for timescales like that...

    Mortal Kombat (2021)

This one? Sorta. The "grounded" MK short on Youtube was basically a fan made movie to try to drum up excitement/investment in such a project. Warner Bros eventually I think hired him to make some web episodes (MK: Legacy) to serve as a leadup to the MK reboot earlier this decade. They...

    The Astronomy Thread

Right, a civilization that has completely exhausted/is close to exhausting all local resources basically has to look elsewhere or die/risk collapse. So if we look at vast timescales, eventually you have to look outside your solar system, although such a move with limited speed would be more...
