IT/Software career thread: Invert binary trees for dollars.

I don't know those statistics exist. For your first job it's almost a certainty a degree holder will make more money (although I doubt the difference would be significant enough to cause alarm). After that, it's a completely different ball game. Deathwing, of course there are companies that...

IT/Software career thread: Invert binary trees for dollars.

Yes, this is true at larger, corporate gigs. But at smaller companies HR isn't usually involved in even reading resumes, their only job in the hiring practice is typically the paperwork after the development teams have decided they want to make an offer to a candidate. In this field there is...

IT/Software career thread: Invert binary trees for dollars.

You're very, very wrong about that Deathwing. I've worked with quite a few consulting firms that charge big money for shit talent and still get hired over and over. There is an epidemic of foreign "developers" phone interviewing and nailing it and then having a completely different person come...

IT/Software career thread: Invert binary trees for dollars.

This is one of the biggest job markets on the planet. Look at all the consulting firms and off-shore "developers" who get hired who have never had any formal training and barely even speak English. Think about that for a second. Millions and millions of dollars get pumped off shore to India...

Yes, it is very likely you will get a decent job without a degree in this field.

IT/Software career thread: Invert binary trees for dollars.

It's possible to get a good (better than decent) job without any degree in the field at all. My brother is a self taught developer making over 80k/yr at his first job in the field (after overtime hours) in central CT.

    "Wool" series by Hugh Howey...

Picked this up for the kindle based on this thread. This is the first non technical book (series) I've started to read in probably 15 years. Thanks for the recommendation all.

IT/Software career thread: Invert binary trees for dollars.

Well I was responding to 'bisi but you can pirate almost any book you want, or if you want to go the "legit" route digital copies of programming books aren't prohibitively expensive. As for the "best" language to start out with there is none. It really depends on what you think you'll be...

It's typically a very general degree yes. There are a ton of different types of software development/engineering jobs you can get and a lot of different technologies you would be able to work with with a bachelors in comp sci.

Unless you can get your current employer to pay for it you should just teach yourself. Save money and time.

Marriage and the Power of Divorce

Phazael is right and we are having fun and appreciating the reading material Onoes is providing (it's a staple of this forum as it stands)....but Onoes is entirely too easy to encourage into bad behavior and as Phazael said, he's got responsibilities greater than himself. Acting like a teenager...

Marriage and the Power of Divorce

Everyone makes mistakes and does things that are out of character or make them feel guilty and remorseful. Doing this kind of thing once and regretting it doesn't make him a piece of shit. Habitually sleeping with married women does. I was saying, "Bro that ain't cool man, you are getting way...

Marriage and the Power of Divorce

That's pretty terrible, but if nobody else was willing to fuck her because she was married then she probably would have been more inclined to be honest with you and ending the relationship like an adult rather than dragging you along and making a fool out of you.

It's not the power washing I'm concerned about. It's getting on the ladder to water seal the second story deck. I just don't want to do it.

I got quoted at $1040 for the 2 decks. Which is still more than I expected, and is making me question whether or not I should pull the trigger.

Festival Thread. Anything regarding festivals past and future. Going to Glasto 14!

I go to the Newport Folk Festival every year. In recent years it's gotten very very big but it's still one of the best music festivals out there. They get phenomenal acts every year, I always end up finding 3-4 new amazing bands I'd never heard of before and it's not a shit show. I'm way too old...

GoT - Is Over, Post Your Drogon Sightings

Yeah her story line isn't very intriguing or exciting but at least it's decent character development I suppose. Though it tends to just be the same thing over and over at this point.

I hear all these stories about you guys doing all your own projects and I think "Yeah, I want to do that. Gives such a sense of satisfaction". Then I start to look at a project and figure out what it's going to take and go straight to HomeAdvisor.com to find someone else to do it for me. I'm so...

Marriage and the Power of Divorce

I don't think anyone is actually mad at Onoes. We are finger wagging and telling him he's kind of a scumbag for doing what he's doing with a married woman. And I think you're crazy if you don't think being a willing party to such behavior isn't scummy.

Nah dude, if she Amanda Knoxed his ass there would be at least one other woman involved and she would have ended up dead and he'd be on the hook for the murder. As for the people who got all pissy about the conversation I essentially started, grow up. That was one of the more civil, adult...

Marriage and the Power of Divorce

What the hell is wrong with you? I successfully avoided the analogy wagon and you just ran it into a ditch. You have no choice in the situation you outlined, you didn't have time to think. You didn't actively see the kid in the road and then make a conscious decision to run him down. And yes...

Yes, the onus is on Onoes to be a dignified human being who is respectful to himself and society. It's about being a decent person.

Marriage and the Power of Divorce

I am confident all of you, as respectable adult human beings, wouldn't walk over to someone and spit in their food. You wouldn't shove a child out of the way to get a better view of the fireworks, and you wouldn't walk up to a stranger and call his wife a whore. I am certain you would all take...

Marriage and the Power of Divorce

This conversation is going off the rails real quick. BoldW, congratulations on the cuckolding but that's not the type of thing I am talking about. I don't know, maybe that woman and her husband do have an open marriage. But even that doesn't sit right with me, simply because it's hard to believe...

Marriage and the Power of Divorce

I don't want to fall into the analogy trap, but how could you honestly say the onus falls solely on the married party? You're making a conscious choice to become an interloper. Are there not enough single women? Where do you even draw the line? Is it OK if you were just an innocent bystander and...

Because it only takes one to tango right? I hate apathy in general, it's such a useless thing "Well if I don't do it someone else is gonna". What a shitty point of view. Hold yourself to a higher standard and don't do things that are morally reprehensible.
