I said the same thing about vaccine mandates. I sometimes wonder if these companies even have legal counsel, or if they don't have the budget for it cause it all went to HR.

    House of the Dragon

What a weird comment. You're basically making the argument that you have to start at the beginning of time so you have context on who characters are. That jumping in at a certain time period would be too jarring as you'd need to introduce characters. It's amazing we have any media whatsoever...

I could've told you that. You can also do traditional to Roth conversions and they also become subject to the 5 year period (the 5 year period for these is based on the conversion date however). For example, a retired married couple can withdraw close to $100k a year and face zero federal taxes...

I wonder if after 2008 the rich realized that holy shit, yeah, there's some short term pain with a massive economic collapse, but you come out of it way richer and it's kind of worth it. 2020 saw a massive shift in wealth, and this one is continuing the trend.

Yep, I pointed out the similarities in timelines between this and 2007-2009. We just had the first little 20% drop that came before the actual crash. The real economic disaster is still coming. Except this time we have the bonus of 70s style inflation and a decade of QE. It's going to hurt...

Was listening to Kevin Bacon on armchair expert and he said that Hughes would just film and film and film, and it was prior to digital so it'd cost a fortune. I'd imagine all of his films probably have tons of extra footage.

Yep. Groundhog Day on the day, obviously. Planes, Trains, and Automobiles for Thanksgiving. Christmas Vacation, Home Alone, and Elf around Christmas. Probably seen each in the 20ish times range.

Now seems like a great time to buy it. At worst you're getting a 20% discount. When you sell the individual stock 10 or 50 years from now, you won't care about what the price was.

That's like the opposite of what I figured most hurricanes would be. I thought it was that the wind doesn't really end up doing much with post-Andrew building codes, which is what most people are scared of. And that it was flooding that really does all the damage.

I bet you'd be surprised. We ran ours off our van shit (200W panels, 100AH lithium battery, 1000W inverter) after the 2019 earthquake. Fridges don't use much power anymore. You need a surge on the inverter big enough for when it kicks on, but otherwise the actual power draw is pretty low. Now...

I mean, sure, the market is moving up today. But it's still down over the last week and substantially down over the last month. My end of '21 S&P prediction of 4100 is looking incredibly optimistic, and I feel like 3300 is more likely.

    The Woman King (2022)

Edu-tainment. Because so many movies in the past just completely lied about historical events because they'd be boring otherwise, right? Like in Braveheart where the English won, or Saving Private Ryan where the Nazis decimated the allies.

I mentioned it in Politics, but inflation being "flat" at this point only means it's increasing at a constant pace, not that it's slowed at all. Making it worse is now we're at large compounding inflation rates, where last August was 5.3% and now we've got 8.3% on top of it. Inflation isn't...
