Not that I needed the motivation for it, but it does give a good reason to do all the events right now. KT weapons still worthwhile for another 5 months. Been playing the shit out of this still. Up to HR72 now. Got my full Drachen set, and working on all the optionals now. KT only really for...

It's also looking like the last ~30 years or so were a bond bubble and the returns we saw on them were way above normal. They'll still be a decent hedge, but expecting 2-3% return might be the new norm.

A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood (2019)

I don't understand why this movie exists when the documentary does. How could this possibly be a worthwhile endeavor when it's someone pretending to do what we have footage of?

    Top Gun: Maverick (2020)

This is really just a brag at this point, but I got to fly a real F/A-18 simulator. It's an actual cockpit (all the real avionics), surrounded by a giant projector screen. You can legit get airsick in it (the first time I went in it, it was a demo and we were just standing in the room while...

I mean, the legacy F/A-18's have been around since the mid 80's, and the E/F's are about 20 years old. US airframes are all kind of old as shit.

    Top Gun: Maverick (2020)

No, they don't fly F-14's anymore. For the Navy it's F/A-18's or nothing at the moment (as far as fighter attack that is). F-35's are still kind of on the horizon but not quite there yet, although they're expected in the fleet any minute now. And no, there are no F-19's or F-20's. Air Force's...

I agree on international. I go with the JL Collins theory that it's 2019, and "American companies" are essentially global already. You don't need more international exposure. If the time comes that it starts looking like the US won't be the dominant economy for the next century maybe I'll...

The big thing about market timing is you have to be right twice. You have to call the top and the bottom. I've also heard that "this is finally the top" every single year since about 2011. So good luck.

    Top Gun: Maverick (2020)

From what I can tell, none of it is CGI. Like the low fly over the desert in the first scene is a Blue Angels jet. They CGI'd out the desert plants and recolored the jet, but otherwise that happened.

Finally picked this one up in the Steam summer sale, as I had been waiting for a price drop for forever. Already 50 hours in, and now I'm starting to prep for Behemoth. Seems kind of intimidating though because from the sounds of it, it's a bring your own group kind of affair. I'm working on...

Why can't we, as a society, admit that sometimes we're just better off without certain people? This girl was never going to be valuable to society. Just like the junkie who's been arrested two dozen times. Or the pedophile who molests kids. Let's off them and move on without taxpayers having to...

I don't think in the history of ommon law that that argument has worked. "Oh, I didn't know that tubby bitch has a heart problem when I hit her with my car." Tough shit, still manslaughter (or murder in that case). "The random rounds I shot off into the air killed a kid? My bad!"

This seems like a weird example to use. If I'm put in a situation where I feel the need to shoot someone, I'm shooting until they're dead. There is no such thing as "shoot to wound." Similarly, in this circumstance, how do you know the guy isn't a threat anymore? Are you just going to assume...

My wife was talking to her friend earlier in Illinois (today is her birthday) and I think at that point we had had 250ish 2.5+ quakes, and like 1200+ measured in the last 24 hours. We've probably doubled that by now. So far anything above about 3.2 to 3.5 or so we can feel pretty well.

Honestly the big quake itself isn't the worst. This one lasted maybe 15 seconds. It's the anticipation of worse, and/or the fact that we keep getting smaller aftershocks that we never know if they're going to be big. Because even the big ones feel like a small one at first until it really...
