Yeah, same here. This was kinda underwhelming after coming out of the TF2 beta. TF is so playable out of the box, even with base guns and no unlocks. IIRC it kinda has always been the case with BF series - guns for most classes suck until you get unlocks. Also, target visibility was never good...

Just play single player until you get used to it. Takes a while. I did that transition a few years back.
