I like this guys series, he edits well, picks good music, tickles my intellectual side by being edutainment a good amount of the time fitting it in a grand narrative story. there's a lot more video's this guy has but his two best series are the assasination of caesar and the congress of...

I've watched like 5 different video series of napoleons campaigns, I like this one the most, well narrated and animated, well peppered with qoutes and drawings or paintings, solid history channel esque music that really sucks you in and adds dramatic tension, very good sound design. Also the...

I like how siddartha was from the Kshatriya caste which means he most likely was a white man because the great arayan migration that settled in india had them setting themselves up as the Kshatriya warrior caste.

i like this 22 part series on the history of western europe from rome onwards to 1400's because it's drops one obscure origin, word, phrase or tradition after another in this series. A nice non standard walkthrough of western civ with entymology and origin of customs as a throughline this...

I watched the running man remake, the 2 partners of the main char felt superflous, there was no backstory with them like the original so there's no reason to care why they're killed off, which they were immediatly. The plot devices are meh, The metaphors are kinda in your face and pacing is like...

well I mean it's not really the pre internet era anymore and everythings spoiled now but generally what you describe here seemed to happen when you draft the set and you see cool stuff and go "what's that?" that's not lost at all with what I was describing. what I was talking about is after...

I saw someone with a breakdown a week ago claiming that the player base is basically 1/3rd of people who started in last 2 years, 1/3rd of people who started more than 5 years ago and 1/3rd that are 10 year plus. I think the avg player can go back like nearly 10 years in their head of cards.
  21. fanaskin

    MTG thread

it's definitely cost something, people used to have like every card memorized by the art, that's not really possible anymore, kinda makes you lose connection to the game a bit. it's subtle but I think it's a real thing.

that dark ritual is hot, the rest is meh you're misunderstanding me, they've spent like over 2 decades building up tournament magic and suddenly commander is more popular which is a format that was fan made. you're thinking I meant from the moment of inception, no.

    MTG thread

No I said they already do this so you aren't proposing a solution to anything, not to hasbro at least, they put commander stuff in standard AND all the other products even the non commander product, literally every product is a commnader vehicle. look at the shear volume of stuff they put out...

this setup doesn't invalidate what came before like commander products do, legacy is kinda turned into a wild west of nonsense that rotates constantly because of all the cards that get dumped into it from non standard products, mh2 turned off a lot of people because it was doing what you suggested.
  29. fanaskin

    MTG thread

it's a terrible idea either way because it would a bunch of stuff into draft and constructed that's useless, they don't bother to test commander products and if they wanted to put it into standard products it would tank the core product they've had this entire time.

each card has like 4-6 variants now so the chase variant "alt frame textured foil" can be like $2-500 while the base card is like $30, the vintage stuff starts at like $300 and can go into the thousands but there's less places to play them so that's why collectors go for those (plus reserve list)
  36. fanaskin

    MTG thread

nah just a relative handful of cards from the 90's that are on the reserved list really appreciate value which collectors go for, or sealed product. the rest is based on market demand for putting into decks across various formats. if it's not on the reserved list or maybe specific arts that for...
