Ya, currently they still have to wrap up book 2. I think it will be fairly similar to how they handled the 1st book wrap up this season: book gets wrapped up slightly before mid season,then the remainder of the season focuses on 3rd book.

If there is no FTL in this universe, then where is the alien planet? Just the act of discovering/colonizing that world would have realistically taken centuries. Also, what method do they use to transmit data? Unless it is virtually instant, you'd still be looking at years for round trip signals.

Avatar will be hard to recreate. It was the first movie to -really- make 3D worth it, so it makes sense there was a ramp up. I do recall seeing it a couple times in the theater months apart and it was still packing the seats (my gf at the time didn't want to watch 3D, so I had to go by myself...
