yeah my assumption is that all the cool SteamOS shit will be open source and not just the kernel. If they start adding closed source systems to it that are critical then they've lost the point.

Yeah that's why I'm thinking we'll have a good estimate by the end of January 2014. I kind of want to run a second, longer contest that lasts until January 2015 just because that's a more realistic time period to determine who wins the first year of the console wars.

It's not really aobut what's fair to the manufacturer, I just think it'd be better to only consider the US since most of us live here. Including the world would increase the error in our predictions too much.
