Use leveling mat on the top of your stand. It's basically just EVA Foam with a stick side. Most people I watch on Youtube etc use it on their frameless tanks to prevent anything like that.

Since you don't have anything in the tank yet, and you're looking to put in live plants, I'd drain it and put in a layer of organic potting soil underneath your pea gravel. It will give the roots nutrients, and make your substrate thicker for more bacteria to breakdown sludge. Not necessarily...

It's more to boil out the majority of the tannins, which stain the water and can be toxic. But yeah, some manzanita or spiderwood is fairly inexpensive.

There are a lot of good tank mates for a betta. I personally like fancy guppies, because they are non-aggressive, and will breed like crazy to give your Betta fry to eat hah. Best bet is a fast, non-aggressive species, so they can avoid getting their fins ruined. Any bottom feeder, like...
