IT/Software career thread: Invert binary trees for dollars.

Boys, I had my second interview for a mini job (UiPath) yesterday. 15 hours per week, low pay, but despite that (sort of due to that) I really, really want this. I can get by just fine, and a low stress job sounds amazing. Never tried to be nervous for something like this before. I am about 10x...

AI: The Rise of the Machines... Or Just a Lot of Overhyped Chatbots?

I am completely blown away by Claude Cowork. From this simple prompt it finds the 'Pets' thread and gives a nice pet description, including context. It uses a background browser and does actual mouse clicks to navigate and take screenshots. So far it successfully did everything I've thrown at...

IT/Software career thread: Invert binary trees for dollars.

We just had one here saying IT hiring was going up this year. As well last year and the year before. I don’t know what tf they are basing that on. One of my former employers (consultants) are firing for the first time ever. And they have hardly any work for the remaining.

I don't know anyone who would do something like that. Or pretty anything else, for that matter. Anyways, it's time I stop rambling.

    Friends

I am married, without children. But nothing has come close to "the good old days". I do have a few friends but we don't talk a lot and almost never do anything together. And when we do it is nothing like it used to be. The other day I was thinking about nigh fishing with a friend. Watching the...

IT/Software career thread: Invert binary trees for dollars.

This may sound spoiled but public transportation drains me. It stresses me out with all those people. So when both work and commute sounds stressful…. but in any case an hour is a long time for me.

2 hours total :) maybe I didn’t make that clear.

IT/Software career thread: Invert binary trees for dollars.

I thought about it... but I am not sure I could stand even that, it might be for a very long time. And I would burn some bridges if I leave after a short time. Decisions...

IT/Software career thread: Invert binary trees for dollars.

Just as I wrote this a former colleague posted a job add. I skipped the line and went straight to an interview with his boss. High pay, 7 weeks of vacation (yes, 7). But I get easily stressed and it was a demanding job (banking, moving billions of dollars every year). And 2 hours of commute...

IT/Software career thread: Invert binary trees for dollars.

I’m actually going to remove the oldest entries to mask it a bit. But still… 100-200 applicants for even the shittiest sounding jobs.

IT/Software career thread: Invert binary trees for dollars.

I haven't applied for a job since my first job 30 years ago (I am a programmer). Things just happened and there was always plenty to do. Now I find myself without a job and the ones that are relevant to me have 100-200 applicants. I also read an article about how 50+ years will often exclude you...

    Friends

From a teenager to mid twenties I had so many, many awesome and unforgettable experiences with friends (albeit different friends over time). Like fishing, computer games, movies, just hanging out, all kinds of stuff. But in late twenties it just fizzled out. I'm not sure why, maybe people grew...

    What are you playing?

Replaying Dying Light (first one). Crazy how an 11 year old game looks and feels better than most new AAA(A) titles. Also playing Elden Ring with randomizer mod. Fighting heavy archers while wading through a swamp is... interesting. Had to re-randomize.

    Idle Earl, home-made

Good to hear, thanks. I just get this, both in Edge and Chrome:

    Idle Earl, home-made

Sorry, I just want to rant. I uploaded Idle Earl to Y8 and lots of players are viewing it. But for some reason Y8 forces fullscreen. Leaving fullscreen will exit the game. Pretty stupid for an idle game. And it's not the case for other games I checked, just this. I am pissed. Rant over, happy...

    Forest 3

I loved the first one, but I was still surprised to see that it ranked #35 of best selling pc games of all time (5.3 million). Then again, that list doesn't include Elden Ring. And it has Everquest at 3 million. Really? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_PC_games

    Earl in Space

True, I did make a lot of them very easy. I've started to shuffle levels around, make new ones, balance things, etc, but number of players is so low it doesn't really matter. Thanks for giving it a shot :)

    Earl in Space

https://zimpzon.itch.io/earl-in-space Earl is back! Another self-made game, this time a platformer.
  28. P

    Idle Earl, home-made

Making levels is much harder than I thought, but I made a demo version. I might have to give up on this whole platformer thing lol Earl In Space - beta

    Idle Earl, home-made

Glad you enjoyed it! A platformer, so an entirely different demographic ;)

    Enshrouded

iirc you can select any char for any game, so you can do the quests locally and then later join their server with that char.

    For the mature of us

I find this hilarious lol. One day I will grow up, but that day is not today. Generated by AI. As long as it is real names AI is certainly a lot more lenient. https://claude.ai/public/artifacts/fef65f52-ab55-4bc9-9e01-d08697e13916

I almost refunded this because I got destroyed so badly. But then I decided to git gud and after 8 more hours I really wish I had refunded.

    Borderlands 4

Apart from a few absolutely insufferable characters 3 was great. Especially the girl, wtf were they thinking??

    Borderlands 4

It's great fun but for the most part not memorable. Except the two bosses we did so far (two player co-op). They are cool but the last one took like 15 min, wtf.

    Idle Earl, home-made

I need a small Earl break now so I just added a simple new tier and buffed some numbers.
  38. P

    Idle Earl, home-made

Yeah I need something relatively simple, I'm am a bit busy these days. And I can't even come up with a single one atm  I could just add Final Earl now. Or wait and see if any simple ideas pop up.
  39. P

    Idle Earl, home-made

I'm thinking... increased income from high end upgrades, add 5 more upgrades with the last one being Final Earl (something crazy). Fits exactly on the screen, as it should :) Then there is an end goal to work towards, both for players and for me. Version 1.0, final Earl.

    Idle Earl, home-made

Good questions... If diamond value outpaced credit cost a little it would get faster and faster, instead of slowing down. If that one can be figured out without breaking early game balance. Some auto incrementing buff might be easier and probably more fun. It could still let things speed up...
