I think the fact that Walder Frey who we saw get this throat slashed/murdered by Arya celebrating with his family was the bigger tip off.

I feel like the North isn't as badly decimated as we think. Quite a few Houses refused to join with Jon against Boltons, they would be relatively fresh, if not completely unscathed (some will have lost numbers in Robb's war).
